Really great horror game with some comedy thrown in. Unique areas, interesting story, and there is an achievement for petting a cat.

This is only for the single player campaign.

As a fan of the original Crysis, this seems like a downgrade. It definitely feels like they were trying to make it more accessible by designing it for consoles and trying to make it feel more generic shooter like. There are no quick saves, there is no dedicated "throw grenade" button (just switch to grenade). There is this annoying "Hold [key] to look" that comes up way too often and disables other buttons (like weapon switching) until they decided to take it off the screen.

The suit has "upgraded" and now only has armor/cloaking instead of the original four options. The levels are all linear, and every time you get to an area to fight, your suit gives you recommendations, which I quickly started ignoring since it took the fun out of finding ways to do things. In one of the levels, they even have you get on the turret of a vehicle at the end for no reason - the next level you start inside a building.

The AI is also pretty terrible. Maybe 1/10 times an enemy through a grenade at me, it actually went at me. The other 9/10 times, they just threw it at a wall and killed themselves. There were a few times where the AI got stuck on something in the world and just kinda walked in place. The "aliens" just felt like reskinned generic enemies. Besides the couple tougher variations, and the occasional wall jumping, they would just act like the human enemies (take cover, shoot at you, run from grenades).

If you really want to play this, wait for a sale. It felt like more of a chore to get through than actually being fun.

Fun and fast old school style shooter. As many other said, it is rather short (beat it in 2.5 hours), but it does have a survival mode. Would definitely recommend picking up when on sale.

First off, this game is HEAVILY inspired by Jet Force Gemini. I feel the need to emphasize that, because you don't really get that impression from the trailer. Only at the end do the bugs and guns show up for a brief second. How is it inspired by JFG? You have your pistol, machine gun, ammo boxes and capacity upgrades around the world (and hologram forms of ones you haven't collected yet), your enemies are bugs, there are life force doors, you rescue birds (instead of tribals), hell, the first level is basically Goldwood Outset even. On the negative side, though, the developers apparently missed the memo that third person shooter aiming and controls have gotten a lot better in the past two decades. Also not supporting keyboard and mouse does not help.

Where the game differs from Jet Force Gemini is the platforming sections. In these they take your guns away, and you now have some different controls for platforming. There are completely different enemies, and the areas have a different feel to them. It almost seems like they had two different games they wanted to make and merged them into one.

At time of writing, I'm apparently 25% through the game, and have only been playing 1.5 hours, so it apparently isn't that long. Graphically, it is beautiful, and has been enjoyable to play. I would not recommend picking this up at full price. Given that it is short and lacking basic features, $40 does feel like too much. I had preordered the game, which had a 33% discount, and that felt closer to a fair price.

Amazing puzzle game! It starts off simple to teach the mechanics, but gets hard rather quickly. Definitely would recommend for any fans of puzzle games!

Frankly, I enjoyed this game. Yeah, it isn't doesn't *feel* like a Wolfenstein game, but it was still fun.

How is it different?
  • Cooperative: I'll start with the obvious, it's coop, however, it doesn't really feel like a coop game. Both sisters have the exact same weapons, abilities, etc. It's more like they designed it for single player, threw two people in it, and threw some doors around that require both of you to be there to open. You can play solo, and the other sister is controlled by AI, which is how I played it.

  • Open World: It's more "open world". I wouldn't call it a true open world game, but there are maybe eight or so levels, plus a hub world. You travel between these and do different missions, rather than having a linear story, which leads me to...

  • Mission: It's mission based. You get main missions and side missions, which bring you back to the same levels multiple times.

  • Enemy Types: They added this "light/heavy" enemy type system, where more weapons are more effective against certain enemies. At times it feels like this doesn't matter, at other times it feels like using the wrong weapon doesn't do anything against the enemies.

  • Leveling and Upgrades: You gradually level up through the game and can unlock new abilities, increase health/armor, etc. You also collect silver coins through the levels that can be used to upgrade your weapons. Think you also use them to get other things, but I never bothered with them, or even needed to. I never felt I needed to farm for these, either. By the time I got to the last level, I was about level 40, and had a bunch of ability points and silver coins laying around because I had everything I was interested in and upgraded all the guns I liked.

Other Pros/Cons
Pros:
  • The level design is excellent, especially with the city parts. You have streets and alley ways to go through, apartments you can go in, etc. There are multiple different wants to approach areas and take them down.

  • With the exception of the enemies type differences mentioned above, it is the same gun play you would expect.

Cons:
  • The sisters can get annoying.

  • The ammo for the guns seems a bit lacking. I heard something about this being intentional because they want to encourage you to switch weapons, probably due to the whole enemy type thing.

Re: Criticisms
  • No Pause Button: This has been patched.

  • SJW/Liberal Propaganda: Honestly, if you see someone saying this, they probably scream this at everything. Yes, you play as women. Yes, you kill Nazis. That's it. If you are offended because you play as a woman, get over it. If you are offended by killing Nazis... Umm... It's Wolfenstein. It has been like that since Castle Wolfenstein was released nearly 30 years ago.

  • The Game is Short: Guess this depends on how many of the side missions you do. I did a decent number of them and finished the main story in 13.5 hours, compared to how long it took me to finish:
    New Order: 10 hours
    Old Blood: 6 hours
    New Colossus: 11 hours

  • Microtransactions: You can buy gold bars for this game, but I don't see the point. Some of the skins you can get for the armor and the "cheers" (or whatever they are called - they give you temporary boosts or health/armor regen) are expensive, but I went through the entire game without getting them, with zero issues. As mentioned before, I never even had to farm for coins to buy things, let alone feel like I had to spend real money on them.

To get this out of the way, I loved the first, and have been really enjoying this one. However, it kinda seems like a downgrade, in a lot of ways. It feels more like a more shooter focused Fallout than it does a true RAGE sequel.

First off, it doesn't look as good. This is probably due to them using the Apex engine instead of id Tech (like the first RAGE). The NPC's lack the amazing sense of detail and realism that they had in the first one, and really they just feel like standard NPC's. There were also more enemy clans in the first. If the first, there are six bandit factions that all felt a bit different (at least, to me). The Gearheads would use sentry bots and turrets, RC bomb cars would be outside of the Shrouded base, etc. In Rage 2, it really only felt like there were the Goons and the Shrouded, and with the exception of the big guys, the only different between the two felt like the Shrouded were armored. Technically, there are also the River Hogs, but I didn't see much of a difference between them and the Goons, except that they had dogs.

Another "downgrade" was in the craftable items. In RAGE 2 you have grenades, wingsticks, sentry drones (that seem to really only be good for a distraction), healing items, then two others that I never used (think they affected ability and overdrive cooldown?). No RC bomb car, no sentry bot that would follow you and attack, or any of the other fun items in the first RAGE. Guess these were replaced with the abilities (I'll get to those later).

You don't get different ammo types, either. This was replaced by some guns acting differently if you aim down sights. For example, the rocket launcher will lock on and fire a bunch of mini rockets when aiming down sights instead of a single rocket, and the shotgun will fire a single slug instead of a spread of buck shot. I remembered switching between all different guns and ammo types depending on the enemies (sawed off with Pop Rockets for big mutants, pistol with Big Mama's for the elite bandits), but in RAGE 2, I went through most the game with just the AR, shotgun, and rocket launcher.

There were some interior areas, but nothing like the first. I had tons of fun in the first using the Shrouded's RC cars against them and fighting my way through mutants the Dead City. Rage 2, well, again, feels more like a Fallout game. There were some big buildings you went into, but the majority of the side missions were open area along the road that could be cleared in minutes.

That being said, though, RAGE 2 has a lot more open of a world than RAGE did. Once you get through the initial tutorial section, the whole world is open for you to explore. You unlock weapons and abilities through arcs, so you are able to unlock most of them early on, which is great. I always hated finally unlocking the most powerful weapons or gear, but then having most of the game already finished by that point. The car combat is fun once you unlock more than just the gatling guns, and it feels really good once you are finally able to take down convoys. Oddly, though, the car combat still felt better in the first game (personal preference, again).

A big thing Rage 2 does add is abilities. These are basically like super powers, and add a ton of fun to combat. Think I used the slam is pretty much every fight I would get into, because it never got old.

While RAGE was mostly all story focused with a few side missions, RAGE 2 is the opposite. I want to say there were really only seven story missions (two for each ally, then the final one), or at least it felt like that. Most of the game is taking down bandit camps, road blocks, mutant nests, etc. It still is pretty fun, and I actually had to think about how many story missions there were because I was having fun with all of the side missions.

To sum it up, it does feel like a downgrade to the first in some ways, but as a game itself, it is still pretty fun.

Basically Far Cry 3 with different characters in a different area. If you liked FC3, chances are you'll like FC4.

Far Cry 4 is an open world, freeroaming first person shooter. Many of the mechanics from Far Cry 3 remain, such as hunting and crafting to increase how much you can carry (ammo, items, money, etc), taking over radio towers for revealing the map, taking over outposts for quick travels points, and various side missions unlocked when you take these things over. Signature weapons remain as suped-up versions of guns you can get within the game after completing certain events in the world (take over so many outposts, towers, complete so many side missions, etc). Another big similarity to FC3 is that you start with only half the world open to explore and unlock the other half by progressing through the campaign. They did improve upon these features slightly, but didn't change too much of the formula. One new addition was fortresses. They are similar to outposts, but more difficult to take over.

As far as the story goes, you return to spread your mother's ashes and get caught up in a war between a group of rebels called the Golden Path and Pagan Min, the games antagonist. Pagan Min is not nearly as good of an anatagonist as Vaas was, but they did a good job of creating a new anatgonist and didn't try to make a copy of Vaas. There are some missions where you choose which leader of the Golden Path you want to side with, which does change up the mission a bit and adds some replayability to the game. They also did a good job of keeping a balance between how powerful the weapons you have are and how tough the enemies are, but signature weapons are still insanely overpowered, which can be tons of fun. A disappointment I had was with the snowy areas up in the mountains. Those areas were all mission-based locations and were not part of the open world for you to explore.

Overall, another pretty fun Far Cry game. They changed enough to keep it fresh, but not too much to make it a completely different game. If you liked Far Cry 3, definitely check it out.

When your game has pretty interesting water physics, and pretty bad shooting mechnics, don't make the last half of the game shooting bad guys.

The graphics aren't that impressive, the movement and control mechanics are kinda clunky, and the shooting is barely tolerable, but for how cheap the game usually is on sale, it is worth picking up to see the water physics and mechanics they made. I think the game would have been a lot better as more of a puzzle game revolving around the existing mechanics and completely due away with the shooting combat.

It's a pretty fun game, I just wish it would let me play it.

The gameplay is third person, cover based. If you've played Gears of War, that is pretty much exactly what the combat is. The gravity manipulation is a pretty fun and neat twist which can open up the path to progression and pull enemies out from cover. The cover is also destructable, so you (and the enemies) can't hide behind it forever.

The big issue is the design of the overall game. Here is how an early part goes: [Cutscene], you walk down the street, [Cutscene], you turn the corner [Cutscene], you kill two guys [Cutscene]. For the hour and a half to two hours I've played, that is how the whole thing has been. Well, I say "played", but a lot of that was watching cutscenes. I'm not one of those people who hates cutscenes and thinks that they should not exist, but this game can not go more than [literally] five minutes without one. I will say that they ARE skippable, but even then, having to skip one every few minutes is annoying and to the point where I've given up on the game. Maybe down the road I'll give it another shot, and maybe further in they let you play for more than 5 minutes at a time, but for now I'm moving on.
