Gather Brothers! Gather Sisters! Hear ye! The Captain is dead! Long Live the Steward! Each shiver shall deliver us and delivered it has indeed!

New London has taken its next step. No longer do we shiver to death in shacks with bellies full of sawdust! Together we have held our holy city through the great fall and beyond! Onwards we tread to a brighter future. Now our suffering can be spread across this great white sheet. The City shall not only survive but thrive! Let us all eat dust from Winterholm to London! Long Live the New Captain!

So I'm here to ride the fence. Alone EG2 is a game that is a whole lot of fun that has a great amount of personality.

The game itself, at least in my experience, runs great on my laptop. Full maxed in DX12. My desktop is the definition of overkill so I thought it was a good test of a mid end machine. I didn't experience any technical issues, not a crash to be seen.

The game itself plays very close to EG1 if a bit simpler. The layouts you can make if you get creative can be very entertaining. The minion pool is maxed at 300, which I though was waaaaaaaaaaay too low. I used to consistently make it 500 or higher on EG1. 300 feels very low for the sheer amount of space you get. The types are very close to the first games with minor differences. Traps are also a lot simpler which acts as a double edged sword. No more super convoluted Macgyver machines but on the downside..... no more super convoluted Macgyver machines. It may seem ridiculous but seeing those agents go flying into a "kill corner" via your system of fans, saw blades and sharks could entertain me until the sun burns out.

The world map is a lot simpler with missions being a one off until its completed then you start it again. The system works fine and I do kinda prefer it to EG1s but I do like it more then giving up minion cap to send them to Antarctica. It feels like there's a lot less loot. Which there 100% is. No more tiny statue of liberty, just steal her Torch you get the idea, same but different and less of it, although some of their effects can be both very cool and helpful.

Rooms are plainly simpler. Less to manage, less to watch, less to do. This includes two rooms that were from the first game that used to cover their own stats. Those stats aren't in this one and those rooms have been made "halfway homes" between the 3 left. This, unfortunately, makes them feel a bit awkward and out of place. I respect them trying to keep them in but their lack of purpose can be felt.

Now that we've come to here you might notice something. I haven't said the game is bad, which it isn't. By no stretch of the imagination. Its a perfectly fine game, but its Evil Genius 2. That's the problem. It lives in its predecessors shadow, through and though. It even plays and feels like a shadow of EG1. EG1 was dripping with cold war, bond style personality. From the soundtrack to the modules to the game play it feels good.... just not as good as EG1 which it is trying its hardest to live up too. EG1 had such depth, to annoying extents at points admittedly, but research was done passive and actively with the science minions going around the base and collecting notes or ideas or whatever you'd like to call them. When you kidnapped someone and interrogated them they'd become that minion type then train others from there. EG2 just isn't as complex, in-depth or as interesting as its predecessor.

Would I recommend EG2? Yes
Would I recommend EG2 to EG1 players/fans? Yes but with a warning label
Would I recommend EG1? YES

Right now Bannerlord is simply a better polished, admittedly a bit buggy, Warband. Theyve smashed bugs like Orsen Lannister and I love it so far and Im confident this is the successor to my beloved Mount & Blade that Ive waited 10 years for.

Allow me to spin you the tale of Ian the Pious and Andorf the Executioner. Ian, fresh out of training in both faith and war, dawning his warhammer to join the ranks of the faithful to beat back the ever encroaching darkness. Almost as surprised as his superiors when Emperor Karl Franz brought him into his personal ranks to inspire the men. Soon he felt the taste of combat, it was not against the ranks of chaos, nor the horrors of Sylvania, not the destructive hordes of greenskins or even dwarves who wished ill on the heirs of Sigmar.

No it was his fellow countrymen.

Middenheim sat quiet to the north, not supporting nor offering support to the newly appointed Emperor. Atleast not in the open. Franz, hearing about a convoy of artillery to be sent to the secessionist forces decided to intercept it. Hiding in the forest, he stood next to his Emperor beheadst a large host of State Troopers. In the distance he heard the fire of the Emperor's artillery and soon..... the charge was sounded. The sight he emerged to find was not a glory filled battlefield, men standing ready to face them, swords at the ready to face the forces of faithful and fall before them. No, what he saw was men, not unlike the ones standing behind him, bloodied, covered in soot from the bombardment, screaming in pain. With this he met the true face of war. That day they slaughtered the traitors to the last. While he did not enjoy nor agree with happened but he understood its nessesity and would never question the word of his Emperor. Victory after victory against the traitors.

Talabecland-Subjugated
Wissenland-Allied to fight the Dwarves
Averland-Destroyed by Dwarves
Stirland-Conquered by Talabecland

While the rest fought against the terrors to the north. Then, one day, after the first war with Talabecland, he met Andorf, a blind Witch-Hunter, yet renowned for his prowess in combat and faith to Sigmar.

He did not like Andorf.

Often when on the march they would argue about the men and how best to command them. You see, Franz had left leadership of the forces to Ian, as he had proved to be a competent soldier and commander. And now he was told he was to share command with the Witch-Hunter. After a few battles he proved to be not so hotheaded or bloodthirsty as others of his kind Ian had met. Andorf seemed to genuinely care for the men of his command, putting himself and the fore of every charge, the thickest of every battle. Over that they bonded but never truly came to terms with each other. Then came the Siege of Nuln.

With but a single full host of Reiksguard, Franz planned to take the city. It was madness, but Ian would never question the Emperor, he had lead them in more dire situations to victory and Andorf was faithful to the grave. When volunteers to take the wall were called for, both imminently stepped forth. Franz decided to let both of them to take leadership to take the walls. With the men manning the siege towers they followed closely behind, ready to dive into the breach. The death around them, as the Reiksguard were filled with shot, bolts and struck with cannons. Yet ever onwards they strode, more then ready to die in the name of the Emperor. When they finally reach the wall the men poured forth, ready to avenge those killed during the approach. Ian and Andorf took to different towers, to support the assault on two fronts, yet even in the mists of battle they found themselves back to back in a sea of enemies. They fought as if blessed by both Sigmar and Khorn. Almost alone they took the walls and cleared the way for the rest of the army, but rather then rest like the guard of rank and file, they charged down with the rest of the army. Securing the city for Karl Franz.

From that day the acted and fought practically as brothers besting anything the world could throw at them. Franz soon decided to unite the southern Empire under his direct leadership. While most fell into line almost imminently there was the Counts to deal with. They march with complete and utter surety in their cause to protect the Empire. Even against these horrors they won, all up until the assault of Drakenhof. Again they took to the walls, ready to face the unholy for a last time, but as Ian assaulted from one tower, Andorf, now refereed to as "the Executioner", came face to face with Mannfred Von Carstein. While almost unmatch with his sword and pistol in the Empire, Mannfred has had lifetimes more of experiance. Andorf could almost match him, but he still was on the defensive. He called out to his battle-brother Ian, and he rushed to aid him but when he arrived it was not to fight Von Carstein with his brother. It was to a wounded man, barley clinging to life on the battlements. In last words that only Ian could hear amidst the melee. After his passing, and a silent prayer for his friend, he took up his warhammer with holy benediction fiery rage. He charged at the Vampire Lord with little regard for his own life. In a clash that shook the ancient fortress to its very foundations Ian laid the vampire low.

Even with a victory so great, the losses of men were beyond the count of grief. The Empires future had been secured, but Ian wondered, how long until another force tries to bring his beloved country low? And what if he's not around to assist his lord in beating back the darkness? He pushed though thoughts from his mind as he prepared to march north, to Norsca. Not as Ian the Pious but as Ian the Lordslayer.
