Objectives are very simple, but the average player is incredibly stupid. Not uncommon to have a team of 20+ people, with only one person doing the objective. Not really the fault of the game, just the falling IQs, brace yourself.

If you liked Myst or adventure games in general, you'll enjoy this.
The puzzles are diverse in difficulty, time consumption, & method.

I love that they filmed actors for the game, instead of using animated models; something that was common in the 1990s for alot of adventure games for obvious reasons (graphical limits), but even in 2017 a filmed actor is still vastly superior to the typical character animation in a game.

The game has a few bugs, a restart of the game appeared to fix all mine. Make backup saves just incase anything weird happens (also especially close to the end of the game, cause there are two endings).

Also, when you see the red Mofang artifact that you've been warned not to approach, save before you go near it so you can get an achievement without dieing.

If you get stuck, take a break & make sure to explore alot. If you lose patience, make sure to view only guides that give you hints first, so that you have a chance to figure out the puzzles yourself, without the answers just being spoiled.

A fun thought-provoking puzzle-solving mystery & adventure. The backstory is rich & makes the main story feel epic, deep & satisfying. The puzzles become quite challenging & clever, with optional easter eggs being thrown into the mix to reward you for extra effort :)

Rust is a game for clans, griefers, and streamers. Solo playing is either not possible or not fun. If you try to play solo, you'll be out numbered by a clan within a week & griefed at very opportunity. It takes forever just to get the basics, especially solo. Server wipes are a joke, because hard-core Rust players will dump 12 hours non-stop on the day of the wipe. I personally cannot justify doing that & having to dump insane hours daily just to stay relevant in the game is more a chore than fun. The amount of time and effort required when solo is just not worth it. Success in this game is purely down to how much time you invest in it, so the servers will be dominated by either large clans, or people who have no job & just play games all day.
Solo means that not only do you have to farm 5 times more than a group without setbacks, but given that you'll be outnumbered in PVP and hunted/camped by griefers, this further increases the amount of time and effort you'll have to pour in to establish yourself.

So you're probably saying, "well, just form a clan".

Rust is not a good game to make friends. It is long punishing trials to do it. A typical rust conversation in-game is "Hello, hows it going?" and then taking a bullet to the head. The average players are immature kids/teenagers only interested in griefing. You would have to be willing to die & be griefed over a dozen times, just to meet half decent human beings in this game. 1/3 of the people who you do manage to make "friends" with in Rust, are not really friends at all, but rather backstabbers. With that said, the best way to form a group, is to form one outside of the game ahead of time, because Rust itself is a magnet for emotional vampires.

But if your group is not covering your base in shifts so that it is protected 24/7, then either a larger clan that has the man-power to patrol in 24 hour shifts, will out-perform you; or a tiny band of losers with no jobs will. Games should be fun. There is a difference between a challenge, and a chore. A game where you have to invest days, just to lose everything to toxic griefers, is not worth the time & effort, and then everything is going to just get wiped anyway on top of that.

But this leads me to the final issue. Even playing this with a group & managing a few bases, it honestly got rather boring because you just run out of things to do, and maybe that is part of the reason why people are so toxic, because they got nothing else better to do in this poorly designed game. I play this game for a week once a year, just to try out the new features & give it another chance, and if they were to actually resolve the issues, I'd be happy to switch my review to positive, but they still haven't made soloing any better, nor tackled the clan issue; The responsibility for that has fallen on the shoulders of third party modded servers, so the devs can't figure out how to fix these issues after several years, and now they are releasing a DLC for $20 that will give people an advantage over those that don't buy the DLC, so Rust is going the pay to win route, to make matters worse.

Rust devs don't seem to have any actual direction with this game, it seems to just be a sandbox like Garry'sMod before it but actually inferior, with mostly useless features added on a whim (like a spinning wheel), and as a result, people only play the game to grief or like it is a battle royale, but any REAL battle royale game is better than playing Rust. I don't have to spend absurd amounts of time and effort in Fortnite or PUBG to PVP like you do in Rust.

I will give them credit for their attempt with the safe zone (outpost) but it really doesn't do anything to be fair, it doesn't offer enough or can just be camped, and older attempts, like the vending machines, & trading window, etc just aren't being used enough, and infact people are afraid to place vending machines for fear of attracting clans eager to raid.

Everyone wants to be toxic all the time, there is no trading, no economy, no diplomacy. Instead all people seem to want to do in Rust is griefing & PVP. The griefers don't kill you because they want your resources, they do it for the pleasure of knowing they made your time and effort a waste, total emotional vampires & there is a whole YouTube and Twitch market full of people either griefing or counter-griefing. There is also alot of roleplaying videos on YouTube, but of course it is almost always admins of servers doing it, because you can't roleplay in toxic Rust otherwise.

Now, with regard to PVP, my favourite type of game to play is a game that is pure PVP, but PVP in Rust is the worst kind of PVP. I will explain why. Firstly, you have to spend hours farming, just to be able to PVP fairly (unless you want to use a bow or spear against a geared guy with semi or ak). Most PVP will be someone sniping you, or surprise attack, especially if you're farming; that is because most people are griefing. Often you'll be far from a spawn point to retaliate, and even if you are near a spawn point, the respawn timer is insane & then you have to traverse the massive map.

If all you want to do is PVP, you have to spend more time traversing terrain and gathering resources, than you do PVPing.

Me personally, if I want a good PVP experience, I'll play a game dedicated to it, like Counter Strike; You can jump into it, and start immediately, you don't have to hunt or farm resources for weapons in Counter Strike; If you die, your score is just lower, that is all. You don't lose hours of building, resource gathering, etc. You don't have to spend most of your time traversing a large map for little to no gain. If Rust devs are okay with the current game, then that just tells me they are just throwing a bunch of gimmicky crap together in a sandbox, and calling it a game, but this is more of a chore to play, it is basically a part-time job with no pay, and given the flaws in Rust that will likely never be fixed, these flaws leave the door wide open for competition, so instead of spending hours playing this game and others like it, I could either play a better game, or even better, I could be programming & 3d modelling for an alternative game and making money.
I say to anyone that can develop, you should take advantage of the situation as well, and make alternatives to games like this. With so many bad games being made, we need to make gaming great again.

DOTA 2 is one of those games, where if not for the issues, it would be a perfect game, but the bad outweighs the good here, the flaws of this game are sure to bring misery upon you, instead of having fun & after several years now, I don't see the devs ever fixing anything.

DOTA 2 requires teamwork to win & despite there being both ranked and unranked matchmaking, there is nothing casual about unranked. The game has a punishment system that puts you into "low priority" aka punishment pool, if you idle too long, abandon two out of 25 games, if your game crashes through no fault of your own, if you're abusive, OR if abusive players file false reports against you; yes, they can do that.

Now, if you're okay with this flawed draconian report system and punishment pool, here is the best part; US servers are overrun with Peruvians and Hondurans that don't speak English. They will likely report you for not speaking Spanish, or just being an outsider, because they have animosity towards outsiders. Unless you're bilingual, good luck communicating in a game that requires it.

Regular matches can last 60-90 minutes, and you're not allowed to leave, no matter how bad the match is.

After remaining in a miserable 60-90 minute match to avoid an abandon & subsequent low priority, you may still get reported by abusive players or crash, which both lead to the punishment pool. In DOTA 2 it isn't uncommon for a player to blame you for their own mistakes & then report you. Example, seen people solo tower diving or jungling alone in the enemies territory & as soon as they die they blame everyone else. The time when you're most likely to receive a report is when your team has a party of 3 or 4 people, and you're the outsider; in this case, the abuser won't want to blame their friends so it is easier to blame the stranger. So point of this paragraph is to highlight that remaining in a bad match, doesn't always save you from the punishment system & it highlights that there is nothing "casual" about unranked as a result.

This is a free game, so there isn't much risk in trying it, but there are much better games out there.

UPDATE: Turbo mode was added and although matches are half the time, this isn't enough. The US servers are still dominated by people who don't live in the US, and don't speak English. We need servers with regional lockout & ping limits. Does not have to be for all gamemodes, and can be an option you select in matchmaking, but it must be done.

Game has severe performance issues, crashing.

Report system & punishment pool are still flawed and doing more harm than good.

This game is several years old, and the devs have heard ALL of this over and over, they just don't care. Avoid this game, even if it is free, it isn't worth the time.

Despite this being Telltale's biggest Intellectual Property to work with, it feels as though they treated it like their smallest.
It looks and feels incredibly low budget. The graphics are bad, the audio and music cuts off and starts abruptly, animations glitch during scene transitions, the gameplay is mostly tapping buttons (so no gameplay at all basically), and the story isn't very good either. Don't accidentally hit space, or esc, or any other key because you'll have to restart from a checkpoint probably several button clicks ago (1-2 minutes).
Telltale in an interview, said they were going to deliver a true Jurassic Park game, that fans wanted. Saying FPS games was not what we wanted, but rather a pure story-driven experience. Well I can tell you, FPS is actually what alot of people want, and if you're going for a non-FPS that is all about story, you have to do better than this. This game is something you buy when its like $5, and if not for the annoying button tapping that you have to get just right not to die, id recommend a beer too.

Fun game, when it works. So many bugs/glitches I lost count. constant repeating of missions, crashing, freezing. This game was very poorly made. Cheap labour out of china I reckon.
