I wanna preface this by saying that I love what ED can be at times. I absolutely love the rush of finding undiscovered planets while deep space exploring and the relaxing atmosphere of mining (In VR). I also love the combat, and the variety it can offer. But do you wanna know what I don't love?

The process of getting to those portions. The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ grind. God, I cannot stand the grind. You need to grind for Elite rank so you can get a half decent home base, you need to grind for faction rep to get the ships you want, you need to grind for materials and blueprints in order to get the modules you want, you need to grind powerplay in order to get a shield that is essential to some builds, among other modules. You need to grind for credits. This game is 90% ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ grind.

And you know what? I wouldn't even mind if the grind wasn't so slow and absolutely boring. Did I buy a space sim to fly around spamming courier missions, or to go to planets over 1K LYs away just so I could fulfill some stupid material requirement in order to upgrade any part of my ship? How about the fact that all the missions that you might actually want to do pay ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pennies compared to any high efficiency method of getting credits, even trade loops? Or even waiting 25 actual minutes for my ship to fly in a straight line just so I could map out my first discovered ELW?

I'll be honest, I have hacked in ED. (Yes, I received my 7 day ban for it, no I won't do it again.) I didn't hack to gain an edge in PVP or anything like that, that would be some clown ♥♥♥♥. I installed hacks because I'm a real person with a real ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ schedule, and I didn't want to have to spend 5 million years getting to the parts of ED that I actually bought the damn game for. I installed hacks purely for the purpose of speeding up the endless ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ grind. And you know what? It still made me want to bang my head against a wall. I have no shame about cheating in ED, and you shouldn't either. The game has no respect for your time, so why the hell should you respect it's rules?

If you have any thoughts of getting into ED with friends, maybe getting a fleet carrier for yourselves for deep space exploration, or some comfy times mining together without needing to jump back and forth between stations, you can throw those out the window. You can't even give each other credits, so don't bother even thinking of trying to work together towards a goal. Unless you and your friends are okay with grinding for weeks, maybe months depending on your goal.

TL;DR: Depending on your goals, ED is less of a space sim and more of a grind / waiting sim. FD seems to think this is the gameplay loop players want. Also cheating to skip the grind is omega based no matter what the redditors say.

A mover-shooter that you can play in bite-sized intervals. It's unforgiving as all hell, but that's kinda part of the appeal.

It'll be good for steam deck.
