I'll start us off:

Mini Metro - It's a very simple game: You just create metro/subway lines. That said, it's a good "zen game" (low stress/relaxing).

South Park: The Stick of Truth - I don't know if a game has had me laughing as much as this one has. It consistently one-ups itself. However, it really helps to have an understanding of the show before you play it.

Banished - It looks like a city-builder, but its actually more of a survival game. It's incredibly easy to make that one little mistake that brings your town crashing down, but it's still a fun game.

For me personally i'd have to say

Arma 3- This isn't you average fps game. It is a military simulator and it takes a bit of time to get into it. Yet when you play with friends its a great time whether your good or bad. Just getting friends together and playing casually, relaxed tactical (< my prefered style) or hardcore milsim its a fun time and for me has lead to a lot of great memories. (Plus one the the insignia mods at Garupan patches!)

Garry's Mod- Honestly whats better then a game where being a total and complete dumbass is the right way to play. From Sandbox to Flood to 1942rp to the calm of Gmod Tower its fun to just fuck around and let your imagination run free either alone or with the squad.

Last but not least I'd have to say is Guns of Icarus Online. Never in my life have i ever seen such a great dev team and community. Its fine flying your steampunk airships through the skies with your crew made up of people you may not know or your friends and try to control the skies. Leads to many great encounters and really fun if you like being a Captain or crew member.

Sorry for not being super descriptive of the games themselves but what better way to reccommend them then to use what you have expierenced on them

If you don't mind smaller titles: (These are my opinions, your experience my vary)

Valiant Hearts: The Great War - its a side scrolling puzzle game set in WWI and follows four characters and their experiences during the war. The game teaches alot about WWI through collectible trinkets, excepts from letters and some general information. The mouse and keyboard controls (for me) were a little difficult when trying to go diagonally, but it is still competent. It's hard to write a review because I don't want to spoil too much, but I will say that the story is very good.

Fault Milestone One - kinetic novel (no choices). An enjoyable story about a fantasy world ruled by mana. The plot follows a bubbly princess and her cynical bodyguard/friend who are flung to the farthest corner of the planet and their adventures as they try to get home. It's a little heavy on the exposition, but the story is compelling and the soundtrack was great. I belive there is a demo if you want to try before you buy. This is an episodic kinetic novel (Fault Milestone 2 is in production and I believe has a demo as well).

This War of Mine - a point and click game where you play a group of survivors in a beseiged city during a war. You have to manage surviving during the battle by scavenging supplies, repairing and enhancing your dwelling, while trying to balance morality with practicality. You will be faced with some tough decisions.

Verdun - WWI FPS. Still in early access/beta but the devs regularly update. Its a tug of war FPS where you play the Central Powers or Entente in the trenches. Attack and defend your lines while becoming furious at SMG wielding Germans.

Recettear - An interesting take on your usual dungeon crawling RPG in an anime style. You play the owner of an item shop in your typical RPG town. Buy items from the wholesaler, or hire an adventurer and collect items by killing enemies and bosses in dungeons. Take your items and sell them to the locals. Make sure your business is profitable or the local loan shark is going to give you some troubles.

I'll probably add more as time goes on.

Johnny, smaller games are fine too! Mini Metro is absolutely tiny, for instance.

Europa Universalis 4 - I was practically raised by strategy games and in my opinion this is the best of the best. It's noticeably more "gamey" than the other games in Paradox's lineup, to the eternal displeasure of some long-time PDX fans, but that's a big part of why I like it. Empire: Total War - The AI is abominable, sieges are a colossal waste of time, and the strategic level empire building has almost no interesting decisions to make. But! You get to blow the absolute shit out of line infrantry with artillery. I love the aesthetic of naval warframe from this time period but I absolutely cannot grasp the tactics. Apparently Napoleon TW is basicaly a less-shit Empire but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

Dark Souls - Quite possibly the best game of all time. Were it not for the general lack of polish and the rapid drop in quality for the last half of the story there would be no question as to its status. It has a tight and rewarding combat system, a good variety of enemies, jaw-dropping scenery, and an utterly dense lore. Dark Souls is well-known for being punishing, and it is, but it is very fair and definitely rewards patience, awareness, and creativity in all aspects of the game.
