Basic networking will tell you that backups are a must. The fact that hostgator's new corporate owner moved all of their servers to one site in Utah was an issue that I was unaware of. That forced "upgrade" was actually a ticking timebomb as they put all of their eggs in one basket.

Today we see the consequence of having no redundancy. Millions of websites have been down for 12+ hours as their one datacenter suffered catastrophic failure.

Although it seems our data is not lost and service will (eventually) be restored, I can't allow us to stay with Hostgator unless they enact immediate plans to provide some sort of off site backup datacenter. Today is was a fixable error. Tomorrow it could be an earthquake or fire that destroys our data.

I have had some suggestions on where we should move, but I'm open to more. If you know a good service that offers VPS hosting please contact me and let me know.

I'm sorry for all the downtime. If I had any control in the matter I would be doing all I could to restore service.
