9Chat fiddled with the social control mechanics too much and the old guard that built the community left. The app itself limps along but any attempts to go back to 9Gag and jumpstart recruitment is met with mockery and dismissal.
You can try, but even here, where Discord players would eventually end up, no one uses the real-time chat function, no one socially coordinates a game.
Checking in. 9chat has become 'Cookie' and while they temporarily banned anyone over a certain age from posting, everything is back to normal and 9Chat/Cookie is still alive and well, with frequent calls for 'who plays game X'.
might be a good idea yeah, but do people even still use 9chat? (not a founder, but a mod so I can do some things)
