The Issue of Crimea
If you have read the rules, you know that I have decided to re-introduce the Crimean Khanate to the roster of playable WFaS factions. The reasons why I did this are the following:

- Crimea got banned as a playable faction way back in 2012. At that time, there were no strict clanwar rules, anyone could basically do anything. There was no troop limit, so with cavalry-based factions like Cossacks, Poland or Crimea, everyone played as cavalry, while with Sweden, everyone played as musketeer. The old German league's clanwars, for example, saw 20 rounds of Sweden vs Sweden, all the players playing as musketeer. As now there are strict rules for every match and the troop classes are balanced, I think it is time to re-introduce the faction.

- I have done exactly 4 clanwars with Crimea during my career. First in 2012, VIP vs Navy Seals. VIP won technically because of the ability to cav spam, but the whole clanwar was a mess due to the lack of rules. Secondly in 2013, when some people tried to introduce WNL rules to WFaS, making a 40% cav limit for Crimea. T_A_H played against Avenger there on Steppe Farmstead, Sweden vs Crimea, with spawn and faction switch rules, and Sweden managed to win 7 rounds total against Crimea's 3. On an open map! Next time was in 2014, when T_A_H played against DarkAlliance on the same map, this time with a 50% cavalry limit, and it was Crimea vs Poland. The score was 6-4 for Crimea, so nothing extraordinary there either. And for the last time, Lazarus had played a clanwar against either Nordic or WDP (can't remember exactly), where we had Crimea against Cossacks on Marketplace with same rules. There, on a relatively closed map, Cossacks beat Crimea 6-4.

- Crimea IS a playable faction, one just has to know how to play it. There needs to be a good balance of cavalry and infantry. One should not build a tactic for Crimea entirely based on cavalry. Crimea is only effective in infantry combat with shieldmen, lancers and musketeers. Crimean musketeers have 2nd worst aim in WFaS, their aim is better than that of Muscovite musketeers, so claiming that Crimean musketeers don't work as a class is plain stupid. In the WFaS patch that Knife Runner and me should have worked on (he left the project due to his selfishness), I wanted to add pikes, halberds and better muskets for Crimea, as well as nerf the horse archers a little bit. But Cossacks do not have pikes either, and they're still effective when it comes to infantry combat because of their superiour firepower. Crimea is basically the same, but with bows instead of pistols and carbines. 4 shieldmen can definitely beat 4 pikemen if they work together, separate the pikes from each other and kill them off one by one, especially if they have cavalry support.

- Nostalgia. That's it lol.

I might remove Crimea from the roster depending on the results of the map testing trainwars (I encourage all clans to organize a match either between each other on the new maps, or against T_A_H on the new maps), but as of right now, Crimean Khanate will stay as a playable faction for the MML.

So after mentioning the reasons, I planned to devise a troop equipment setup thread, which I am combining with this already existing thread, just to help you guys understand more about Crimea. These are the troop setups for the starting gold of 1500.

- Crimea is obviously a cavalry-based faction, but when it comes to infantry, the fact that this is the only WFaS faction with shields is their most tremendous asset. As such, basic Crimean infantry should always have shield and sword, either focusing on armour and defense or speed and maximum damage. The two variations would be the following:

> Tatar Infantryman with Chain Mail (700d), Saber (300d), Thick Shield (450d) and Hat (50d)

Crimea as a faction has the second worst musketeers in the game, meaning they can indeed use their muskets as part of infantry combat. So here's what a Crimean musketeer is advised to use as equipment: Good Musket (780d), Quilted Robe (300d), Bullets (190d), Cheap Bullets (50d), Yataghan (150d), Janissary Hat (20d).

Crimean bow infantry can also be useful against slower opponents such as Sweden, where the bowmen would use their weapons with the "biting tactic", which means skirmishing the enemy from a distance. Cossack infantry usually specializes in it, but a combination of Crimean horse archers and bow infantry can unleash hell upon any kind of enemy. So Crimean bow infantry should have this equipment: Quilted Robe (300d), Saber (300d), Bow (375d), Arrows (200d), Hat (50d), Shield (250d). Of course other combinations can be used, but as for my experience, this has proven the most useful.

Crimea is supervised by their horse archers, but finding the good setup for them is a challenge as well. Horse archers need not take shield, as their main objective is to constantly pepper down the enemy while the shielded footmen do their work. As with the infantry, you can either use a defensive or an aggressive setup for the horse archers, giving two choices for basic equipment:

> Mounted Archer with Saddle Horse (400d), Bow (375d), Arrows (2 x 200d), Quilted Robe (300d), Rusty Saber (free), Janissary Hat (20d).

Lancer is the weakest class for Crimea, yet it can be used effectively either as a foot spearman for zoning out cavalry and sworded infantry, or as purposeful mounted lancer for attacking enemy marksmen. When mounted, it works just like the basic Warband lancer and has the main purpose of bumping musketeers and infantry, while basically doing yolo charges.

Mounted lancer proves the most useful when it has a combination of speed and defense, so it should have this exact equipment: Steppe Horse (600d), Shield (250d), Lance (250d), Quilted Robe (300d), Rusty Saber (100d) OR an extra Flimsy Shield (100d).

Dismounted lancer works most effectively using the lance rather than swords or maces, due to it being the slowest dismounted cavalry troop in the game next to the Polish cavalry. So normally it should have a setup similar to that of the shielded infantry: Chain Mail (700d), Thick Shield (450d), Lance (250d), Hat (50d). I do not advise that a dismounted cav take the Yushman armor (1000d), it would just make them way too slow.

As I said, we will see how the faction performs in the trainwars, depending on that, I might remove it from the playable factions list.

(got reminded of that VIP vs Navy Seals match huh :p)
I say we coumd just give a try. Played as merc yesterday in a trainwar with Crimea and it's not so Impossible to play with it
