Using Linux: yes, though it´s not easily done
But hey: the two clicks clicks needed to start streaming will not kill you, will they? ;)
I think, if you uninstall the game you are talking about from your local machine, so long as steam is set up correctly, you should be able to set up a shortcut using the steam client. I didn't uninstall the game, i just selected to stream it from the launch options before i clicked create desktop shortcut.
- Select stream from the play options when viewing the game in the library view. Where it says "Play" there should be a down arrow to the right, where you can select to stream it.
- In the lib view on steam, highlight the game you want to stream in the game list, right click on the game and bring up the menu. Click properties. In the properties window, click the "Create desktop shortcut" icon.
If your launch options are saved in the steam client, then the shortcut should just be to launch the game with the steam client settings. If you change your launch options in the client then the shortcut will handle the launch per your new settings.
is it because the game is uninstalled on your client?
You can also create a seperate account just for streaming, and add it as if it were your child's account. That way all the games it has access to are streaming only. This way is buggy though.
Alternatively, you could just make your own shortcuts and paste properly formatted Steam launch URLs like this example:
steam://rungameid/730
But you'd have to find each game's unique ID (the last three digits in the example above), which can be done by right clicking the desktop shortcuts on the host PC, going to Properties, and copying whatever is in the URL or Target field. High likelihood either method may leave you with a bunch of iconless shortcuts which is less than aesthetic, but you can also right click > Properties > Change icon... to work around that issue. Your games icons are located (on the host PC) in [Program Files location]/Steam/steam/games/
Hope this clears this up for anyone still searching this problem like I was this morning!
