16:9 host to 21:9 ultrawide success
Hey guys,

Thought I'd share this since I googled and didn't come up with anything that quite worked the way I wanted. Streaming a Windows game to a Linux client, where the host computer has a 16:9 tv to a ultrawide 21:9 monitor -- now, it will display by default but you'll get black bars on the sides and that's annoying. I tried various tweaks to the vdi files to add 2560x1080 to the configuration -- and maybe that's still required? I'm not sure, but it wasn't enough to do what I wanted by itself. I ended up adding a new resolution to the host machine with CRU and then that actually worked perfectly.

Of course it doesn't display quite correctly on the host machine anymore but.. who cares. Just be sure to keep the default desktop resolution to the stock 1080p and just set individual games to 21:9 and it seems to work like a charm.

(EDIT: As a tiny side note, the client machine runs a RX480 on ArchLinux /w Mesa stable. The hardware decoding is working great on open source so.. thats nice, just remember to install the lib32 versions of the vdpau libs!)

Wanted to second that this still works in 2022
I wish this could be fixed on Steam Deck as a host. It's 16:10 and streaming 16:9 creates black bars and there doesn't seem to be a way to force the deck in 720p.
