✫✫First, welcome to Goguryeo Dynasty! This group is to introduce Korean history/culture and to show how powerful Korea was once in the past. Goguryeo conquered now days Manchuria, part of China and Russia! Repubic of Korea is proud to present Goguryeo to everyone!✫✫

Insight: Along with Baekje and Silla, Goguryeo (37 BC–668) is one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea. Goguryeo was an active participant in the power struggle for control of the Korean peninsula as well as associated with the foreign affairs of peer polities in China and Japan.

The Samguk Sagi, a 12th century Goryeo text, indicates that Goguryeo was founded in 37 BC by Jumong, a prince from Buyeo, although there is archaeological and textual evidence that suggests Goguryeo culture was in existence since the 2nd century BC around the fall of Gojoseon, an earlier kingdom that also occupied southern Manchuria and northern Korea.

Goguryeo was a major regional power in Northeast Asia until it was defeated by a Silla-Tang alliance in 668 AD. After its defeat, its territory was divided among the Tang Dynasty, Unified Silla and Balhae. Also, the English word "Korea" derives from "Goryeo", which in turn was named after Goguryeo. An ancient Korean kingdom located in present day northern and central parts of the Korean Peninsula, southern Manchuria, and southern Russian Maritime province.

Founder: Jumong (a.k.a Chumo-wang or GoJumong) was the founding monarch of Goguryeo. It stood solid for 705 years and was ruled by a total of 28 kings in the Go Royal Family until it's fall. Balhae and Goryeo succeeded it, and the modern descendants of Jumong still bear his family name "Go."
