Can't play with Xbox Serie S controller on Steam games
Hi,

I post this help message here because it’s been more than two weeks (05/21/24) since my problem persists and even Steam support does not seem to be able to find a solution to my problem.

So I’m in your hands and hope you can help me find some solutions.

I can’t play any more games on Steam with my Xbox Serie S controller. Indeed, for two weeks, when I launch a game, it doesn’t recognize the controller.

The strangest thing is that Steam recognizes my controller and I can even use it in Big Picture mode for example. My computer (MacBook Air) also recognizes my controller.

I have to admit I am totally helpless because I tried to uninstall the game, disconnect and reconnect my controller, restart my computer, update the software of my computer, install a driver for Xbox controller, try the wired mode and bluetooth mode of the controller, enable and disable steam input, use the beta version of steam but nothing works.

I searched for discussions on various forums to see if others persons have the same problem as me but I find nothing. If you ever have any solution to bring me I would be very grateful because I slowly begin to lose hope of finding a solution someday.

Below the information of my computer :

MacOS Monterey, version 12.7.5
MacBook Air (13 pouces, 2017)
1,8 GHz Intel Core i5 double cœur
8 Go 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 Mo

I can give more informations of my computer or my Steam settings if it is necessary. Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Have a good day !

controller can have its own mappings for bpm, desktop, chord (temp profile only used while holding xbox/ps/home button), and each game

steam -> library -> select game -> config controller
(if controller config is not there, enable steam input in, gear -> controller)

browse configs and pick default

or if the game has native controller support, you can disable steam input for the problematic games

Hello,

I appreciate your response. Unfortunately, as I said in my first message I have already tried to activate and deactivate Steam Input for each game but still today it does not work. I also tried to download community configurations for Xbox controller but it doesn’t work either.

try restarting steam client
@elletse
Check if you have to enable/allow Steam or the games in Privacy & Security/Bluetooth.
(I don't have a Mac and am going mostly off memory so hope that makes sense to you, will look for the posts with the info later). You mention things working previously so I don't expect these settings to be the issue but doesn't hurt to check.

The other thing, check you have Steam's overlay enabled and that its accessible in the games if trying with Steam Input enabled (might be best to use the keyboard shortcut to open it).

Hello @tintingaroo

Thank you for your answer ! I tried your solutions but unfortunately, it does not work. After testing your solution, I even tried to uninstall Steam but it doesn’t work either.

I have sent email to one of my game support (Stardew Valley) in the hope that they can help me but I haven’t had any feedback yet (I sent the email 3 weeks ago).

Steam support is also struggling to find a solution to my problem, they tirelessly refer me to the Steam community forum but I feel like I’m the only one with this problem...
