Biography (Optional, but recommended): Vasily was born in 1928 in Moscow where he grew up. In 1945 after his 17th birthday he was conscripted into the Red Army and took part in the Battle of Berlin. Directly following the war Vasily remained in the army and was sent to the Baltics to surpress partisan activity. It was here he began to learn the basics of espionage, guerilla warfare and infiltration. Vasily commanded a company of infantry during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 where he served with distinction, being wounded in Budapest. Since he was unfit to fight in combat, Vasily was transferred to the newly formed KGB. Vasily quickly became one of the KGB's most skilled spies and was sent wherever the USSR needed to gather information. His decorated career of espionage includes infiltrating Czech revolutionaries in 1968, sabotage of an Israeli nuclear power plant, and creation of a Soviet spy network in London. He has gone behind enemy lines to train foreign irregular soldiers in countries such as Angola and Ethiopia on numerous occasions.

In 1977 he was ordered to infiltrate the US Army Corps of Engineers with the hope of spying on American research in the Antartic. He was given a new identity and settled in Anchorage, Alaska under the name Ernest Powell. He was commissioned as a Captain and now joins the 1982 expedition. His orders include the transfer of all U.S. Antartic research to the KGB, assassination of all high ranking expeditionaries and the destruction of any U.S. outposts he is able to.

Biography: Irina Antonovna Nenashyeva was born in the town of Ivdel' in the Sverdlovsk Region of the Soviet Union on the 3rd of January 1954. The daughter of two veterans of the Great Patriotic War, she was raised in the small village of Vizhay to the north of Ivdel' and the city of Sverdlovsk. The village of Vizhay was a stop for multiple tourist groups, as routes to popular tourist destinations started in Vizhay. When Nenashyeva was around five years old, she met a few of the hikers from the Ural Polytechnical Institute led by Igor Alekseyevich Dyatlov when they rested in Vizhay. This group (minus one, who returned to Vizhay with an illness) would famously go on to disappear on a mountain pass later to be called 'pereval Dyatlova' (Dyatlov's Pass), located on the mountain Kholat Syakhl (Dead Peak in Mansiysk, though the common Russian translation equates it to 'Mountain of the Dead'). Irina would watch the Soviet investigators come and go from Vizhay for a few months until the bodies of the last hikers were found later in the spring. Tourism through Vizhay declined for a few years after the incident due to the two year ban on hiking in the local mountains.

Growing up after the incident, Irina was apart of the All-Union Leninist Communist Youth League (VLKSM), more commonly known as the Komsomol due to her parent's wishes. By all Soviet accounts, she was a good citizen, with her loyalty to the party and her grades in school being unquestionable. Her curiosity about the 1959 incident (even though she was 'encouraged' to forget it) never subsided however, and she took up hiking and skiing as personal hobbies. When Irina left secondary school, she then was accepted into the Ural Polytechnical Institute (UPI) where she studied Mechanical Engineering and Geographical Exploration. Once she exited UPI, she went with a hiking group north through Dyatlov Pass, though nothing of note occured during the five day expedition - at least not written in official Soviet records. After she returned, Irina became increasingly interested in the Antartic region and requested to be sent on an scientific expedition to Antartica, this request was accepted however she was required to report her findings back to Moscow once her work was completed.
