The Moonshine Shack

The name of course, is derived from the term "moonrakers" which was used for early English smugglers and the night time nature of the operations of illegal Appalachian distillers who produced and distributed whiskey, usually in makeshift shacks and sheds scattered deep in the woods of the midwest.

The name was chosen because of the obvious fact that, moonshining could re-emerge as a common activity, a "lost art", a wilderness craft/talent, in the event of a zombie apocalypse, considering that there will be a limited supply of liquor scattered across what's left of the civilized world, and that human survivors who want to partake of spirits such as whiskey, would have to produce it the old fashioned way. Aside from partaking it as a beverage, the alcohol produced could be strong enough to be used as a disinfectant for cuts and wounds, essential in survival scenarios.

Also, considering that an episode of the popular zombie series "The Walking Dead" featured Daryl (a crossbow user) and Beth drinking moonshine whiskey, it seemed a timely choice for a name. Second, I enjoy remembering a character called "Uncle Douvee" from a film called "Hard Target", a moonshiner who was good with a bow and arrow. And considering longbows and crossbows are coming to DayZ soon, it seemed to somehow come together.

This group was started in the hopes that us elder players can enjoy the game from OUR mature perspective, and that we can exchange ideas and information about our DayZ gaming experiences, plus the hopes and concerns about where the game is headed or how it shall develop into final form, hopeful that perhaps one day, we can even air our concerns, wishes and hopes directly to BI or Dean Hall himself.
