Function to prevent sharing games with VAC system
The new Steam function with Family Share is very good, but there are concerns about the VAC issue in certain games. It is possible to share games like CS 1.6, Dying Light, Left 4 Dead 2, etc. If there was at least a function that blocks access to these games with VAC, as a form of security between Adults, it would be a real relief.

From what i read I thing this option would be better for all games with any anti-cheat not just VAC system.
That seems like Valve missed something with the newer Family Share then; because before you could never share games that use VAC or 3rd party DRM such as requiring UConnect, EA-Games, Rockstar Launcher...

I'd like to see this implemented too.

This has also been requested in Suggested that games participating in vac can be selected by the user to prohibit sharing and [family sharing][feature request] filter shared games by cheat detection too.

I've also mentioned this in a Reddit comment and received 57 upvotes, leading me to believe that this is by no means an unpopular feature request..

Valve should probably start with the ability to exclude VAC Protected games from family sharing, since it...

  • Is easy for Valve to identify VAC protected games (Valve shows this in the game features on the store page of every VAC protected game)
  • It has by far the greatest consequences: getting VAC banned due to a family member leaves a nasty mark on the Steam profile of the original game license owner. I'm not really sure how games that don't use VAC handle this transitive game banning, but for VAC the consequences are simply very apparent.

The system could later be expanded to include more forms of anti-cheat systems.

It is also in Valves best interest to implement this. The more games get excluded from family sharing (whether by request of the publisher/dev, or voluntarily by customers that choose to exclude games from sharing), the more new copies Valve will sell and thus earn money.

I don't see any abuse potential in a "Do not share my VAC protected games" family share toggle.

I'm afraid that a family member's account might get hacked and the intruder could get a VAC ban in one of my games, this feature would help a lot

IF THAT Is a fear you have, then don't ever use or allow any sharing; period.

Yes, I'm not going to share 1000 games on Steam because someone in my family could have their account hacked at any moment. It's not like this simple problem could be solved just by adding the feature to block games that exists in child mode and bringing it over to adult mode

I know you can block a specific game from sharing with adults by just privating it in the library, but that makes no sense whatsoever :steambored:

I thought you could pick and choose which games are shared?
And I thought all games that use VAC or BE are not allowed to be shared?

If there IS such a choice about what gets shared, then I see no problem other then a lazy user.

Yeah, there is an option where I need to PRIVATE the games on my account, and you're saying that this is a good solution. This Steam discussion tab is such a joke.
That's the solution?
Then yea, Steam needs to fix this.

It should be something easy and simple for all. That Private option is meant for Profiles and Community stuff.

It should be like > Share with Family Member > followed by an option to show a list of all your owned games > with an option to de-select ones you do not want to share... WOW Valve is that so hard?

Unfortunately, this is the only solution. It's somewhat pointless how Valve implemented it.

This example you provided would already help a lot with our problem and is currently almost the way Valve implemented it to block in Kids Mode.
