Note: game plays fine as either full roomscale or seated. I recommend changing locomotion options to follow joystick and enabling smooth turning. Smooth turning is very slow but it does not effect actual gameplay

I actually think this game is a steal at the normal price of $24.99 for the quality content you're getting. I can't believe the dev was gracious enough to give me a free review copy because this game was on my radar and was one that I had planned on purchasing. I read some of the reviews and thought I should wait for a sale. I was very wrong on that front. I think the negative reviews of this game are very misleading.

They would have you think this game is only pretty to look at. That there's not much depth to it. I don't know what game they were playing but they obviously didn't play for very long. Sure, at the start, things do start to seem like maybe they are getting a bit tedious as you flail your swords against enemies and seem to win those early battles.

However, after the first boss, you get these alien guns and now you're shooting anything that moves. Then you're using your fists and you are boxing giant spiders. Then you eat this alien seed and suddenly everything turns shades of red and you're slicing everything in one fell swoop. Then you get double crossbows.

All the while, you're traversing this absolutely beautiful, living world. It's not just pretty, it's the most immersive VR world that has an actual game behind it. From getting flying insect buddies that help you out in battle or seeing dragons flying above you, this alien world starts to become something you begin to believe actually exists. This game pushes the boundaries of what we thought was currently possible in VR.

It's a must buy. I literally picking up my jaw off the floor after almost every turn. It's that gorgeous and it's that immersive.

Rate 9/10. One of the best examples of what is possible in VR.

Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program to review this game

You can view my gameplay & initial impressions review of the Pre-Release version here (game has been updated since and my review below mentions those differences): https://youtu.be/7ffa3FEgJlI

I cannot recommend this game at the currently listed price. It's not a bad game per se, however, there are much better SPT clones out there, also the original Space Pirate Trainer (which is better in every way than this game). There's this reviewer featured on the store page that says this game is a combination of SPT & Beat Saber ... this game is NOT a combination of SPT and Beat Saber as it has nothing to do with a music rhythm game or any gameplay from Beat Saber. It is simply a SPT clone that isn't as good as the original.

It doesn't have to be better. I could totally go for a more arcade version of SPT. This game has a nice start. This honestly feels like an Alpha Build where more content is planned to be added in the future ... but the content that is there right now doesn't justify the current asking price. You're on a moving platform. You dodge, block, or shoot enemy projectiles. There are a few different types of enemies. You can shoot certain enemies to get upgrades. You start out with handguns and can shoot upgrades for a faster repeating shot, lasers, shotguns, missiles (looks better on update), or health / shields. As you go along things get more frantic until you get to the final boss fight.

I finished the main game on normal in 23 minutes. In my video, I experienced frame rate drops, but that seems to have patched and I didn't experience that on my playthrough today with the updated game. However, there's still just one episode. The listed episodes 2 and 3 are not available. They did add a defense mode.

The defense mode is basically a 180 wave shooter where all the same enemies come at you from a single location. No more moving platform. There is no boss fight. Just the same mini-boss fight that you saw several times in the normal episode 1 campaign.

Rate 4.5/10. The price is just way too high. If this were priced lower, I would give it a barely positive review. In my opinion, this game only has like $5 worth of content if I'm being generous. I think the devs plan to add future content, but I have to review the game at the current price with the current content available.
