I'm also a very big fan of Proto Man.
Haha, I love that! I'll have to start calling it Generation Zero too!
In a way, we were faced with similar situations, you were in Norway (which is really cool, by the way), so you couldn't experience all Mega Man had to offer, whereas I'm much younger, so I missed out on it entirely. But thanks to the Mega Man community, we get to experience everything we missed out on, and even talk to each other about it!
When we got to play his PS1, one the other hand, I played Legends. Mega Man Legends legitimately changed my life, I've never played a game like it to this day, and it's forever my #1 game of all time. It was the first time I ever got really attached to characters, and that game saw me through some of the most important years of my life. Which is exactly why this community exists, to share those good memories of Mega Man!
By the way, have you had the chance to play Mega Man Legends yet? I'm curious to hear what you think of it. After all, that's what this group is all about!
You're right about them being pioneers, I've never heard anything quite like them, and I love it!
As to your question about that section in There Can Only Be One, I'm not much of an expert on MMX (Classic MM and Legends are more my forte), but I see what you mean, it reminds a lot of MMX music, although I can't put my finger on which song.
