With the conclusion of the Bulgarian crisis, British troops will be diverted to Gibraltar. With increased tensions between America and the Soviet Union, British forces will be on high alert.

Gibraltar

The Spanish have seen fit to blockade any supplies entering Gibraltar via land. No doubt in a futile attempt to gain control of the region. Prime Minister Churchill assures the people living in Gibraltar that despite the Spanish's attempts all supplies needed will be sent via sea. Any attempt to stop further supplies from reaching Gibraltar either by sea or air will be seen as an act of war, and the United Kingdom will respond as needed. To ensure that the port is able to withstand the large amounts of imports, an expansion of the port is underway. In addition a full brigade will be stationed in Gibraltar for the forseeable future.

Nuclear France

With America's uncertain foreign policy, the United Kingdom has entered into an agreement to assist France develop their nuclear program. This will help Europe have it's own deterrance to Soviet nuclear power.

The Indochina War

The war in Indochina has proven both unpopular and costly for the French people. Day by day reports of more casualties stem back to Paris, and public opinion is quickly turning against both the government and France's colonial position in the world. In an official statement, President René Coty has announced his intentions to seek a peace deal with the Vietnamese rebels. Although some of the old guard have spoken out against making peace with the "Oppressive Communists" it is clear that France cannot continue to fight the war in Indochina. The President has sent a message to the rebels inviting them to peace talks, and has also asked Switzerland to host the talks.

The French Commonwealth?

France's colonial policy has also come into question. The British have already decolonised to a great degree, and many are starting to ask when it will be France's turn. The idea of a French Commonwealth has begun circulating in the cabinet, with many citing it as a "Equal balance between retaining the French colonies while reducing the burden it puts on the French people." Many on the right have denounced such an idea, hoping to retain what remains of the Empire, while the left hails it as a important step towards decolonisation. What is known is that the French colonies are a primary focus of the French political scene, one that will greatly effect France's future.
