Well, everyone, thanks for staying with us for a year and three months. It’s been awesome. We stuck it out through some tough issues and some conflicts in-house. Unfortunately we can’t make it out of this one. As I stated in an earlier announcement, the failure of Awesomium to be updated is killing off Cinema and we can’t keep hosting a dying server.

I wish there was some feasible way to give back, honestly. I can’t return all the donations we used and I can’t return all the time people spent on the server. I’m super grateful that there have been some of you guys who used your time on our server, and I’m super-duper grateful to those who used their hard-earned money to keep us afloat.

Today is most likely the day that Aura Cinema ends, though if there is any chance we can come back with an updated framework, I’ll consider it. For now, we’ll have Aura retire.

Anyone is free to comment here or add me personally to talk to me about anything. I would still work as a Coder as stated in my profile description, if needed. I also assist in voice acting, graphic design, and website design.

Before we get into anything, let me explain what Awesomium is:
Awesomium Core is basically an "engine" of sorts that drives a lot of features in a lot of different parts of Garry's Mod. It's sort of a browser in itself but a heavily outdated one. It's missing an astonishing amount of features and it is no longer keeping up to today's standards.


With Awesomium not being updated in so-long-I-can't-remember, a lot of features in Cinema are not working as well or at all. With us making progress on KissAnime/Cartoon/Asian as a service, we have encountered a good amount of problems that more or less wouldn't exist if Awesomium was as good as today's browsers. Awesomium still relies on Adobe Flash Player, which is in itself being removed from everything essentially. Ever noticed how your YouTube player changed and is most likely a lot smoother? Your Twitch player? These videos are running on the new HTML5 video player, which is quickly becoming the new standard.

With HTML5 becoming the new standard, once these sites drop Flash support, it's over for Awesomium and essentially Cinema in it's entirety. While it will affect many other gamemodes and some addons, Cinema will be hit the hardest more than likely. It's an issue I have watched over closely since I was informed about it.


What it means for us personally is that we are considering shutting down the server. It's not possible for us to keep supporting a gamemode that is dying off. If this is not an issue someone can dedicate to working on, we cannot promise that Aura Cinema can stay as it is.

We are open to the idea of hosting other gamemodes or having our community move towards something else. If you have any ideas, let us know! We love and appreciate you guys for staying with us, and it would surely suck if we have to say goodbye to you all for this reason.


If you are experienced in networking coding languages and the such please look into working on Awesomium. Without it, we lose a lot. If you are someone who isn't experienced and just enjoyed the server, hope for the best is really all I can say.

I estimate another few weeks or so and we will completely shut down, either permanently, to move on to something else, or temporarily until someone proposes a fix. I will not keep paying for what is breaking day-by-day.

I have set up a few different topics to better organize the forums.

Hey everyone, to celebrate my birthday I've got a neat update for you guys, here's what we've got now.

• Fully functional Chess and Checkers boards located throughout the Cinema for you to play with other players and challenge (not me though cause I'm terrible)

• You can now purchase rentals for private theaters, which will allow you to own them and blacklist other users from coming in if you so wish, if you want a theater with just your friends, go for this! Keep in mind that even if you blacklist staff, they may still be able to walk in.

• A new chat box! I took some time looking around and found a neat chat box that I'm sure you guys will enjoy, it'll come with tons of customization features and configurations to make your chatbox unique. It's still got some small bugs that will be worked out soon.

• AFK Timer -- I wasn't going to let idling go by forever, users will now get punished for sitting in a theater idle just for points while not interacting with anyone. After ten minutes of inactivity, you will be given a large warning to alert you that you will be kicked for inactivity, and after another 10 minutes (totalling 20), you will be kicked. Players who have been kicked many times may find themselves in a banny situation.

• SteamGroup Rewards -- Players who join the Steam group will now be automatically awarded points

I still got some more stuff I'm working on, but these are the biggest changes/additions we have!

Here's a rant.

As time passes on, the staff are getting tired of working on the server. Don't get us wrong, we love what we do and what we did, but it gets tiring putting our time into something we don't feel is worth working on sometimes. We try our best to provide a good community and server that can be enjoyed uniquely, that it's not a copy of other servers, because you could just go to those servers at that point. We're not here to copy anyone else or to make it seem like their hard work is not valued.

We're trying our best to bring improvements to the server, we're working on an excellent new map but it's a team of two and we honestly lose motivation, with this server barely surviving the months, with me constantly having to check my wallet or ask my friends to beg people for donations only to be told that no one has donated and we have to pay out of pocket. It's tiring. It's like buying a present you worked so hard on designing by hand, bringing the materials together and crafting, and giving it to someone to have them take it and not care for it, not even saying thanks.

Don't get me wrong, we don't do it for thanks, we don't beg for anything of anyone. But it gets tiring to pay for something if no one's going to support it. If I wasn't so busy trying to make the money to be paying the server, I'd probably have more time to work on it. I apologize if this sounds very rude of me to say, I really feel sorry that I have to say it, but it's how we feel.

We love our community. We love the people who come up to us and say that they love our work. We love the people who help support us by donating. We love those who just join the server and don't cause trouble. We love the idea of having a space where people can enjoy themselves and interact with new people. But we need to know that what we do is worth it. Emotionally, physically, and financially, it's hard to keep going.

We are at the point where if the servergoers cannot keep the server up then we will let it die. We love this server and want it to succeed but we cannot keep it on life support. It literally takes a dollar from 18 people to keep the server up for a month. We will not beg, and we will not complain anymore. Please understand our decision in this.
