It all depends on the reasons why you were waiting for A:CM in 2013. If you're only considering A:CM as a FPS (and if you're only looking for the best-of-the-best graphics), compared to the campaign, the Bug Hunt DLC may be a surprise for you (level design, non-linear maps at all, challenge experience and even gameplay) but a surprise not big enough for you.
But... if you played A:CM and if you re-installed that famous controversial game in order to (re)dive into the legendary & epic 1986 James Cameron - Stan Winston - Syd Mead feature film atmosphere, and in order to (re)dive into an intense, immersive & panting Survival experience, OMG, in that case, we're talking about a DLC we can't recommend enough (^^).
Indeed, we're not talking about campaign's gameplay & campaign experience. Most of people who spent enough time on that DLC (in order to understand what that game mode has to offer) realized how exhilarating & dynamic Bug Hunt is, especially if you have several traits & stuff unlocked such as Gunslinger & Lightweight Armor (both are badass). You have objectives you'll only able to reach & complete if you'll be able to play safe and if you'll find the numerous ways to save ammo (primary, secondary weapons ammo & alternative ammo crates being all limited, 4 picks max in each one and 2 max for power weapons) which means save cash as often as possible by using the improved PvE melee* , by using your Side Arm (extremely useful until 165% Threat), by using the environment, and by keeping your Sentry Turrets in safe places. And last thing: Ultimate Badass difficulty, especially in Co-op' (Friendly Fire) is really recommended.
( * ) Even the badass melee if you play Apone, Hicks, Drake, or Hudson (not only skins), characters not included in the digital A:CM copies, but sweet characters that were included in all the hard copies, worldwide. And, again, content you can't play in the Campaign(s) but in Bug Hunt & Classic Multiplayer only.

Just'n case, mate, here are two links which may help you to decide. The first one will lead you to MP1ST's Bug Hunt review[mp1st.com]and the 2nd one to some Raptr opinions[raptr.com]about that DLC. So, free will, but if you decide to purchase Bug Hunt, Congrats in advance, see you sooner or later hot & combat ready, have fun and stay frosty ; )
| Note | We can tell this: most of (all?) people who liked/loved the 1986 feature film (by the way, Kevin Riepl's soundtrack work is a brilliant tribute to James Horner and to the movie as well) and who know the Aliens™ 1988-nowadays comics/novels are considering Bug Hunt as a freaking addictive & bloody nice achievement... and as one of the most brilliant experiences ever.
thanks again.
kicking ass of WY and hostile Aliens too! go and fight 1 vs 10 lukers alone in hadly's hope in operation center when your tracker spotting 20 aliens around you and run to die, or run to live? :)
than you just start love it again jajajajaja :P feel the Fear of be Pey for the Hunters, or just try be diying 1 man army hero?
or just buy a New Shiny Awesome Sentry gun/turret that support us and giving us money to continue the fight, then aliens or WY destroying it, time to fight harder! :)
we're not leaving marines behind, our mission to follow! fighting as group, is our Co-op (1+3) War :)
Marines are Ready, do you sure and ready to make them pay?
the truth is A:CM community is slowly dying out. Even some of the most hardcore players aren't as active as they once were (myself included). That being said, BH is the best co-op experience I personally had. I've met some of the coolest team mates evah and even made a few good friends with whom we've spent countless nights fighting off relentless armies of xenos. Good memories that I'll keep for the rest of my life :) So if you have some friends to back you up, or you're willing to put some effort in order to make new ones, you should definetely get BH (6£ is nothing compared to what BH has to offer). This single mode is in many ways representing the best A:CM has to offer, so go get it marine and kick some xeno butts!
Regards,
Sylar
In my personal opinion, Bug Hunt DLC is, simply putting it, a must for A:CM.
Yes, the game was rather controversial to what should have been and what turned out to be, even though i still enjoyed both singleplayer and multiplayer experiences.
BUT, when i heard of Bug Hunt DLC, i knew it was the exact feature that this game needed..
"A co-op survival experience where you team up with other badasse marines in showing those xenos and Wey boys what the Marine Corp is all about?! Damn son, i wont think twice!"
The DLC itself brings the best of the Co-op mode (where it´s not about kills and what-not, but teamwork), to a one-of-a-kind Aliens atmosphere experience, where everyone needs to rely on each other to survive the intense battle that is Bug Hunt matches.
In short and to directly answer your question, yes, there are still players enjoying Bug Hunt with one another, at the very least once every weekend, and im proud to count myself as one!
I would very much like to see you there with us at some point, if buying this DLC is what you really want. I would recommend that you watch some Bug Hunt gameplay first (assuming you havent done so yet), if you are still trying to make up your mind.
I hope we helped you in that regard. If there is anything else that you need, feel free to ask and we´ll do our best to help out.
Take care Marines!
Thanks again and i'm always welcome to anybody who wants to add me for future play.
I am glad that you decided to give BH a shot and I do not think you'll be disappointed. Personally, I have spent countless of hours in this fantastic mode and agree with everything that already has been said. If you enjoy co-op, it is a must have. You should not have an issue finding people to play with however you need to put some effort into meeting people that play this mode. You can do so by adding A:CM steam friends, joining and creating events in A:CM Steam groups and if you are available Saturdays, there are weekly Saturday events in this group. Have fun in BH and remember don't stand behind any turrets (LOL you'll understand what I mean when you play it).
Yeah, totally, this game won't going out from my HD for a while. Is totally worth it, I may say this is the only reason I still have A:CM on my computer xD
By far, the best experience in a Alien universe.
Faling that, BH is quite good to have a bash at solo, and is more than playable for the lone marine..
I play bughunt occasionally, too and still love that mode the most. Along with stasis interrupted, It's the only dlc I can recommend to everyone who likes this game. A big plus would be that you'd be able to join our bughunt sessions usually on saturday (sadly, I'm in my exam period, so I'll be a rare sight >.<)
What you can expect from bughunt:
1.) 3 awesome and big maps to play on which on top of that can be played with varying tactics
2.) tough enemy waves you need to defeat
3.) if playing with others: heavy emphasis on Teamplay
4.) No morons who just break the game for you ^.^
5.) new friends you can play together with - us ^.^
hope to see you in one of our matches, soon ^^
