Suggestion/Idea for Valve to help Steam Moderators
Allow thread creators some degree of ownership of their thread by allowing the thread creator to individually ban users from the thread when the creator sees the problem user as violating the steam guidelines. This empowering effect lightens the load of Steam Moderators when the actions are just and warranted.

If the guidelines are not actually broken and ban of problem users was not warranted then Steam moderators can act to reinstate the banned user's privileges for that thread.

Then Steam can warn or action the thread creators for not acting in good faith of the Steam Guidelines if they are abusing their status as thread creator. This would not create an echo chamber since disagreement is not against the Steam Guidelines and the thread creator would be actioned if they tried to ban those who simply disagree.

The fact of the matter is that some users follow and harass others with Steam Guideline violating posts simply to retaliate against those they do not like or agree with. Disagreement is perfectly fine, but coming in to a thread simply to hurl insults at other users is detrimental to discussion integrity.

This Idea is based on the fact that reporting another user for violations is currently too slow and ineffective to to significantly improve threads in a timely manner. Making sure conversations are constructive and not filled with fighting is imperative to a healthy discussion environment.

I almost guarantee that some of the users that engage in this activity will follow me in to this thread and engage in these same violations that won't be acted on fast enough to stop the thread from descending in to chaos. By the time Valve gets here they just close the thread stifling actual discussion which achieves the goals of the Steam Guideline violators.

Please let the Steam Community help the Steam Moderators in this way since they have demonstrated themselves incapable of handling this alone.

Thank you for your consideration.

You're not entitled to your own echo chamber. If you want one, the groups system is accessible easily.
You already have the ability to do so , its called making your own group. You don't get to selectively pick who is or isn't allowed to post in a thread. Anyone is free to point out flaws in your ideas and you don't get to ban those you don't like
Actually this feature already exists.
It's called private Groups. Create a private group and you get to determine who can post, ect etc. You basically become Mod-Admin for your group forums.
That's an idea. Or simply make a "real" block feature, in so that we don't at all have others tripe we don't want to see. They have a feature like that over at a subreddit i post at. Works like a charm.

You don't have to see what any of us post, you just choose to click show post.

If they don't see what others post, they cannot use them in their narratives.

They cannot not look at such posts.
That is interesting rangers. It actually gives me another idea for another Idea/Suggestion thread at a later time when I can get around to composing it.
People are not entitled to the right to harass people who do not wish to interact with them

These younger types unable to handle diaolog that doesn't reflect their own values. Want ban powers so as to circle jerk themselves in an echo chamber. If you're afraid of opposition ideas.. you have no business in a public square period. Your ideas either suck or malicious. Stop trying to be smarter than the principle of free speech.

Harass? Oh! The irony.

You have me blocked yet had to click the SHOW button recently, quoted and replied.

YOU are choosing NOT communicate with me when YOU BLOCK.

The blocking system works if you stick to your intended action of blocking.

The irony of saying this when you posted a topic that was basically about soft-censorship just after this.
Why Banning Users from Your Steam Threads is Detrimental to Community Engagement

In the vibrant world of online gaming, Steam stands out as a hub for players to connect, share, and discuss their favorite games. However, a concerning trend has emerged among users creating threads: the practice of banning other users from discussions. While it may seem like a solution to maintain control over a conversation, this behavior can have negative consequences for community dynamics. In this blog post, we’ll explore why banning users in Steam threads is not only counterproductive but also detrimental to the community as a whole.

1. Stifling Open Dialogue
One of the core principles of online forums is the ability for users to engage in open discussions. Banning individuals from threads can lead to a significant reduction in diverse perspectives and ideas. When users feel they can’t express their thoughts without the risk of being banned, it creates a chilling effect that stifles dialogue.

Open dialogue fosters creativity and innovation, which are essential for a thriving gaming community. By restricting access to discussions, you limit the potential for collaborative problem-solving and constructive criticism, ultimately leading to a stagnant environment.

2. Creating an Echo Chamber
When users ban others from their threads, they inadvertently create echo chambers. These are spaces where only similar opinions are echoed back, which can severely limit the growth of the community.

Echo chambers can lead to misinformation and a skewed understanding of game dynamics, community needs, and developer intentions. This isolation can foster negativity and hostility, contradicting the core values of teamwork and camaraderie that gaming promotes.

3. Alienating Community Members
Banning users can create a sense of exclusion within the community. Members may feel unwelcome or undervalued, leading

Nope, if Steam allows users to ban other users it creates the same issues as if Steam itself did it.

You not liking it doesn't make it true, if users can ban anyone then that alienates community members, creates an echo chamber, and stifles open dialogue.

The fact that someone can be banned later for abusing it doesn't negate the harm that it causes. If anything it would be less harm to wait for Steam moderation to do any banning as they also provide a means to appeal false bans.
