Installation of games seems way behind other platforms

I mean slow and hogging up CPU resources.

I'm currently installing a game that's around 70 GB and even with my high-speed internet connection (>600 Mbps), it's taking a ridiculous amount of time.

I can download 70 GB of data in around 20 minutes or less from, say, Google Drive -- but this platform is going to take an hour or thereabouts and it's not due to "installation housekeeping." It's just slow.

Also it's running down the performance of my system so there's no "just let it run in the background and be patient." More along the lines of "step away from the computer, son, and maybe clean the entire house while ye wait."

I regularly deinstall and reinstall games on other platforms and it's noticeably less painful.

Can't be my imagination. I'm convinced it's platform inefficiency.

Maybe pick a different "local" steam server from the settings. Its been known to be wrong sometimes about which will be faster simply by choosing the closest one.

Yep. Physical location of the server matters a lot less than how many "hops" away from your computer it is. If I remember right, there are weird cases like the two major ISPs in Australia connecting only in New Zealand.

Depending on what ISP the server is connected to and what ISP you're on and what agreements those ISPs have with each other, a server that's physically further away from you might have a much better connection.

Unfortunately, you're likely going to just have to try different near-ish server locations until you get one that's on the right ISP.
