No Audio on Steam games
Hi,
The wierdest thing is happening. None of my Steam games have audio, NONE. Everything else on my computer has audio: internet browser, spotify, other games not from Steam, even videos from the Steam store. I started noticing this after the Windows 10 April 2018 update. I reinstalled the audio drivers but it didn't work. I reinstalled the Steam client and that didn't work. What I haven't done is restore my PC to the timeline before the April update but I wanted to check here first since it's only happening with Steam games.

My Rig:
  • Intel Core i5 7500
  • 16 GB RAM
  • GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
  • ASUS ROG STrix Z270H motherboard
  • Realtek integrated HD audio

Thanks.

The spring update has a new control panel thing with audio output stuff, checked that thing?

Right click the volume thing in windows and click audio settings and then click the additional sound setting thing, called app volume or something?

It lets you pick the output device, could be the issue.

EDIT: If you right click the volume icon again and click the top option, can you see game in that list and see that it is making sound?

I just tried that but no luck. I fired up a game, checked the sound settings, saw the game but the gauge wasn't moving. I even went to the store page ofa game in the Steam client and played the video. The audio from the video came up and could see the volume level moving but the game still didn't make a peep.

So what I found was that is not a Steam issue but perhaps a sound API issue. I ran all of my installed games and some games have audio and some don't. I have Slain on both Steam and GOG and in both platforms there's no sound. Perhaps is a DirectX thing. Now to figure this out. Thanks for the help.

That's real odd.. I would google around if I were you.
If you solve it then update the thread so others might find it also

Yeah, this mught be an issue with a Steam update as this same problem is just happening to me. I've reinstalled and updatred my drivers, turned everything to max, verifyed the game files, but nothing. The weird thing is if I go to the in-game browser the audio is fine... If you find a solution i would like to know :)

So I fixed it by doing a System Restore. I went to settings, update & security, Recovery and selected "go back to previous version". That put my PC to the version before the April 2018 update. Its all good now. Defenitely Microsoft messed up.

i recently found out that its a window update and you only have 10 days to revert it to previous version as soon as the update came out.

the update was in april. we are many months late.

so what does this mean? are we just sitting ducks now? must we wait for the next update to come along?
