possible scam
i am being contacted by a user that states that i scammed them through the marketplace by buying an item and then not paying for it. i do not use the marketplace nor am i the one that bought the item. but this person is insisting that i email steam at help@steamvalveservice.com so that i can plead my case to steam support but have found no mention anywhere of steam having an email that you can contact. i have not emailed them and have instead submitted a support ticket notifying steam of the issue as a precaution, I was just trying to see if anyone had any advice or knew anything about a scam like this.

It is a scam. Obviously. Of course Valve isn't going to make a random user contact you and tell you to contact them. Steam support doesn't work by email (or Steam Chat or Discord), so of course the email is fraudulent. And Valve can see everything your account has done, they don't need you to confirm to them whether or not you've used the market or interacted with a random user. Steam support will pretty much never need to talk to you to sort some other user's issue out. But it's a common tactic/claim/formula used by scammers because people don't know how support actually operates offhand.

Not just a 'possible' scam.

IT IS, 101% a scam. :Kotori:
Even if someone else is in the same boat, this so-called advice - let’s not call it a PSA - isn’t helpful at all. People only figure things out when it’s too late ... assuming they learn anything at all.

they contacted me on steam and they confronted me about buying the item and showed a screanshot with my user being the buyer. after i showed that it wasnt me then they said that they emailed steam back and explained that it was a mistake and showed a screanshot of it. then they advised that i email them as well and has gotten kinda persistent about me emailing them. i had figured it was a scam but i just wanted to reach out because i do not want my account to get banned over some bull crap

I can also show you a screenshot where I added myself to the list of recent popes. That doesn’t make it any more believable or true.

It just happened to me early, and the scammer kept insisting, the funny part is that he said that I own an object on rust and I dont even own that game, I just reported it to steam

You have to pay close attention how they contacted you. Because the regular friends chat or profile comments are the peasant ways of doing it. Real Valve communication has its own very distinct area.
Its like somebody sets up a booth on a public walkway in front of a police station and pretends to be a cop to inform you about your premium insurance package.
It’s a possible scam like I have a possible heartbeat (fingers crossed!).
Just happened to me too.
So, you handed over your data as well, did you?
