100% this is a ridiculous control system.
Thanks for the 1234 tip, I was using QEF and Shift which could be confusing at times
It's not even a case of people not being experienced gamers.
Uhmm watch this vid:

So like the movement where she's blocking the punch at 15 seconds-- she moves her hand next to your ear. Do you move right / back to dodge/ absorb the incoming attack (the natural way you might move in a fight--like a boxer trying to dodge a punch by leaning or stepping back)? Up to move her hand up to her ear? It doesn't help that the camera is also moving and it makes it appear she's moving a bit to the left as well. And then at 20 seconds when she kicks the inside of his knee: she's moving her foot forward, up, and to the left. So yeah.... Which way do you move your mouse? Up and to the left? Diagonally upward to the right to represent the forward movement of her foot from her body? This is not intuitive at all. And then at 31 sec when she's parrying the punch, her body is moving to the left, her hands are moving upward and to the right.. So which way do I move? Left, upward, and right? And then 35 seconds when she blocks the right and pushes his hand down it's several motions, up and foward and down and then an attack where she's back fisting the guy which is a movement that's to the left and then to the right. Get what I'm saying? I think it's very hard to interpret where you're supposed to move your mouse--it's never explained very well.
I have just upgraded my systems hardware so I might see if that has made any improvement
