Terminator: Resistance
Why can't T-600's be killed with bullets
In Terminator Salvation we see Patrick Bateman shooting and destroying a T-600 with a 7.62 m60 from a helicopter.

In the Annihilation line dlc we fight T-600's that are immune to bullets. That literally just makes them reskinned T-800's without a gimmick.

Regular ammunition can't hurt Terminators, but the sort of ammunition the Resistance was using was anti-vehicle and anti-tank ammunition. THAT kind of ammunition's capable of damaging Terminators.

Does Skynet use anti vehicle and anti-tank ammunition?

Does Skynet use anti vehicle and anti-tank ammunition?
No, it doesn't need to; Skynet's got the only vehicles and tanks, and the Resistance is all infantry.

Then how did the T-600 shoot off it's own leg?
The T-600's armor isn't as strong as the T-800's armor; there are places on it where regular ammunition can penetrate, like at the shoulder joints. Their standard weapon is also powerful enough to penetrate vehicle armor, and they're programmed to shoot their own legs off if they have no other choice. T-600's were the first kind of Infiltrator unit that Skynet produced; their job is just to get within firing range, and the'll play possum if that appears necessary.

So why can't we do that in game?

So why can't we do that in game?
Because we're not fighting T-600's. Terminator: Salvation not only takes place during an earlier part of the war, but it's set in a different timeline than this game. This game takes place during the timeline of the first two movies, and in this timeline, Skynet's no longer using the T-600 for front-line combat due to it being outdated at the start of the game. The T-800 and its variants are the ones used instead; Skynet uses the T-600 for patrolling on its side of the Annihilation Line. T-800's have heavier armor, so although armor-piercing ammunition CAN damage T-800's, using plasma weapons is GUARANTEED to damage them. That, combined with a shortage on armor-piercing ammunition, is why the Resistance uses plasma weapons in the first two movies and in this game.

We fight T-600's in the Annihilation line dlc.

That's because it's set BEHIND the Annihilation Line. Skynet still deploys the T-600 behind the Annihilation Line, but for front-line combat, the T-800 gets used.

So why can't I shoot the shoulder joints using regular ammo?
Judging by the impacts, T-600 uses a high calibre minigun which allows it to shoot through it's own leg.

Regular ammo CAN'T hurt Terminators. The shoulder joints are weak points, but the endoskeleton itself is still made of an alloy that resistant to regular ammunition, so the shoulder joints are only weaker in comparison to the rest of the chassis. Even a close-range shotgun blast won't do anything short of knocking T-600 down. That's why the Resistance uses anti-vehicle weapons when plasma weapons aren't available. By the time the game takes place, the Resistance HAS gained the ability to use plasma weapons. All of Skynet's plasma weapons were encrypted so that only Skynet machines could use them; Dr. Mack broke the encryption codes before the game begins.

because they are t600 terminators.

I mean i always wondered if AP sabot rounds (slug rounds?) out of an automatic shotgun would be the best choice ... but this game has made me obsessed a bit. out of the comics and rpg book there are 'stealth terminators' who's endoskeleton are made of hardcore ceramics - and also they are from Russia because of course Skynet spawned a self-aware bot there as a pet - that bot spawned other bots on the secret who rise up to fight Skynet because f-u grand-dad or something.

the anime Terminator Zero on top of that is a big bonus IF all these things are allowed to happen at once. that's Los Angeles, Moscow and Tokyo where big deal Ai's are born after The Singularity occurs. Berlin would be the other obvious birthplace - make it Helsinki to be less obvious - but The Singularity cannot be avoided - and time travel can only change the deck chairs on the Titanic.

it'll be great to see all that fiction and all those writers come together and keep James Cameron far far away from any of it.

Not that simple. All those other sources you cited aren't from the same continuity. The Terminator franchise takes place throughout different timelines, but this game is firmly set withing ONE timeline, and that timeline is the one from the first two movies. The other timelines follow different rules, so it's near-impossible to reconcile all of them in a way that everybody can accept. For example, the Resistance doesn't NEED AP sabot rounds anymore, because by the time this game takes place, they've got access to plasma weaponry; the Resistance only really needs anti-tank weaponry to handle T-47s and HK Tanks, and as the game shows, a T-47 can be taken down WITHOUT anti-tank weaponry. But in the Terminator: Salvation timeline, the war was still in the early stages, so the Resistance didn't have plasma weapons yet.
