The Talos Principle 2

West 3 gold (Windstream) is bad design (obvious spoiler)
I really think this somehow needs to be changed.

I tried to propel one of the connectors from outside to try and see if thats part of the puzzle, and it would not be pushed far away enough to activate the red switch.

I kept fiddling around knowing that the only way to activate the blue light from inside would be by blocking the beam with the other connector.

"Well but then the wind would need to be able to push the red connector far enough and that does not work, we tried that already".

Well guess what, from WITHIN it works. If you drop it there it gets pushed far enough, if you place it there somehow that does not work.

It really leads you to think, "well that can't be the solution even tho exactly that IS the solution.

It should work whether you place or drop it there. Make it obvious and dont change your own rules. Mechanics should work no matter from where and how you try them. It was only by chance that i tried again something that i "knew" does not work.

thx

Yeah, pre-placing it barely gets it pushed but if you drop it from the inside it will work...that was kind of an infurating one. Other "do it the game way or it won't work" was Thrust Vector (another gold one) Probably the worst one for me, you had to be extremely specific with how you drop the damned thing otherwise it wouldn't connect. (and setting up the solution to that puzzle takes a few mins, so you were off by 0.0111mm? Too bad, do the set up again. lol

Weird, for me it works just as well when placing it from outside.
Here, i made a short video[i.imgur.com] showing how it works for me, first showing how the connector is indeed pushed quite far even when placed from the outside, and then again after connecting it to show it gets pushed far enough to make the connection even when placed from outside.

Ah i see. I guess it was becaue i played it pretty much directly in front of the fan. That changes the angle and it does not work anymore.

I had no trouble with the thrust vector. Maybe you did it wrong?

1. You place one connector up in front of the door at the final stretch of the puzzle. Dont connect anything. (you need to push out the stone one time to walk over it with a connector)

2. then you place the second connector where the stone will push it away. Connect the blue beam and the red and blue switch, also the red switch with the moving stone. Dont connect the red light.

3. go up with the ladder and connect the red beam with the first connector and the other red switch right next to you.

4. Both red switches which open the doors will open. You can go thru and will stand in front of the blue door. Now the stone will push the connector down and you will be able to enter the last door, because the blue beam will take over.

There is no real fiddling or weird placement involved in this one tbh. How did you do it that it was so hard to set it up :3 just curious.
the small fence is there for a reason.
The same for the conveniently placed "window".

Your video doesn't show that if you don't put it near the edge, it won't move far enough.
I had noticed this before and thus I considered it to be probably not part of the solution, since usually solutions aren't in a way where you have to put things down really precisely.

If the fenced wall was just a bit shorter, it would have easily been doable from any position.

Just tried again, and the connector is pushed just as far, regardless of it being close to the edge or not(again, here's a video[i.imgur.com], showing the connector being placed first in the middle right in front of the fan, then on the other edge to the left, and then in the middle again, all 3 times the connector is pushed far to the same distance).
The "issue" is not how far the connector is pushed, cause it's always pushed at the same distance, tthe problem is the placement of the column that obstruct the connector view, but that's easily solvably simply by figuring out where to place the connector so it properly views both the emitter and the receiver, and since careful/clever placement of puzzle elements to overcome the intentionally placed obstruction is part of the solving process(and iirc, in the first game this was even more relevant, as some of the solutions were indeed focused around precise element placement), i guess we can conclude placing the connector properly is indeed part of the solution, even more so when we consider that to actually access the palm reader pedestal you need to be inside the gate, therefore the only accessible placement for the connector is close to the rightmost edge, meaning that the connecotor being able to view the emitter when placed in the middle(in front of the fan) or on the other side(left side of the fan, looking at the fan) is irrelevant as you won't be able to put the conector in those places anyway once you are inside the gate.
How is it even close to bad design?

You carry one pod (connector/reflector) up past the fan and place it in front of the "window", then pick up the other rod and connect it to the blue emitter+receptor and place it on ground so the beam is blocked by the rod in the window.

Go back up past fan, hook up the rod to the red receptor+emitter and drop it on anywhere on the ground in front of the fan.

Puzzle solved.

The point is every single aspect of the puzzle always should work on its own.

Just by making the wall a bit shorter, it would work an be even more obvious.

But like i said above, its aboz the angle, so it works if you just place the item a bit different so i basically admit ... "sry my bad".

Just like in the game+

So you have a slightly different method of solving the puzzle, but it's more or less the same. For me, the titles of the puzzles give everything away on the solution... but for this puzzle I essentially did the same thing but I just put the connector at the bottom and ran up the pathway through the open doors and then the blue activated with the push, It seems like everything thinks you need to put it on the edge of the platform... but placing it down at the bottom works perfectly fine too.
I had more issues with "Hollow", the only one where I actually had to check online about at least the first steps, it's way too easy to get stuck inside the barriers if you accidentally turn off a beam or do a single wrong move, and have to retry from scratch. That was the most annoying.

This one took me a bit, but the solution is actually quite easy: connect one to red source+red switch, bring it in front of the blue switch, then connect the other to the blue source+blue switch, it obviously won't turn on since it's physically blocked by the first one, go there, pick the first one and place it to the ground - the blue beam is now free to activate the fan, that will push the second one in the right position.

I had the same experience as OP on that one, it's weird and threw me for a loop for awhile.

Me too. Reminded me a lot of the Road to Gehenna bonus puzzles when I realized the solution.

Curious how you can get stuck in Hollow? One room has a purple field you can walk out of, the other has a ladder.
As for windstream, I had the same thing as the OP, but quickly saw it was the angle and not insufficient distance so got it pretty quickly. I used a piece of equipment to temporarily block a receiver in a previous puzzle not long before (which I don't think was the intended solution in that one) so it occured to me straight away that was the way to remotely trigger the blue setup.

Sounds like you came up with the same wrong solution as me where we had to carefully drop one pre-connected connector in front of the moving block and leg it up the stairs and through the red gates. Sokurah's description made me look it up on youtube and now I see the correct way to do thrust vector that has no finicky drop placement at all.
