28) Noone likes the flamer, except the flamer boy. I only suggest the flamer for showing an excited flamer boy how it feels to be blind.
29) If you play an assault with a Thunderhammer on NM with FF on, after wiping out your whole squad with one hit of your Mjolnir, never say something like: „Learn to play, keep your distance.“ Otherwise you have 3 possible teammates less for future sessions, quite hard with that small playerbase.
30) Stay together or die alone!
31) If you're at the tail of your team's formation, priority is keeping up with the others. Shoot while walking backward and use your map to navigate. The accuracy increase you get for standing still isn't worth getting separated or slowing down everyone else.
32) If you play an assault with a Thunderhammer on NM with FF on and teammates are nearby, SHIELDBASH or BLOCK. Or alternatively, Deep Strike away.
33) If you're team's Apothecary is using the lightning claws, count him as an Assault, an additional Apoth with the Narthecium WILL be needed.
34) Ammo needs to be reloaded - do not all start firing at the same time
35) Position and Spacing - do not all bunch up together - Why have two guns when you have three? - 2 brothers side by side looks good for the school photo but blocks forward line of sight for the brother behind - step back/forward to each other and brother behind can fire through the gap as well
the bioscanner sight realy helps you out as the nids will be bright orange when you zoom (and it even highlight turrets)
28) 2nd amendment: to stop annoying your teammates, take the rearguard position. Don't throw your flames all over the team because it blocks their sight.
38) Formation is everything. You want your front 2 to have enough firepower and/or tankiness to push through a horde, your 3rd spot for a utility / healer class who can float to whichever side needs help, and a rear guard who can kill fast enough to keep swarms at bay (if not push through them himself). As you move and cover the angles, stick to this formation - if you run out of position to 'help' or chase kills, you've left a gap for the nids to swarm in.
39) Flamer is a bad weapon for the front, as your team can't aim through it, you don't have the range for turrets/shooters, and you can't see when enemies are leaping at you / spitting, so you can't see when it's safe to push forwards. Conversely, it's great for a sole rearguard, as you can safely DOT any number of nids to death whilst moving away, and you mostly get melee enemies only at your rear. (just saw your amendment cszolee79, glad you said it too!)
40) Melee builds are great for front, with some backup for ranged enemies. They're not great for the rear, as you have to run towards enemies - and away from your team - to engage.
Plasma cannon is still viable on ff with the lowered aoe and careful aiming, and aiming at normal nids becomes an actual challenge. Fine to use if your team lacks any anti-BL.
Oh man, these 2 so much. The number of times I see people welding every door in sight, and get swarmed in the process...if it doesn't reduce the number of angles you have to watch, then it's pointless to weld.
Tip #41) You can Block doors while walking away. (Not sure if intended) You do this by holding E and immediately walking away from the door before the door actually closes. Once you are far enough away you are free to release E and the door will continue to Block. Handy for blocking doors while on the move & keeping good pace with your team if playing rear-guard.
42) Storm Bolter Mk2 may seem weak at first, but get the armor penetration and anti-jamming perks for it ASAP. If you are able to spray a Nid's head (watch the tracers, NOT your crosshair) full-auto it will pop like a melon (even on NM)!
43) Redeemer shotgun is a great gun even without upgrades, doesn't get you used to staggering everything easily (for those times when you decide to try FF-NM), blinding teamates, and causing FF damage. That is, once you learn how to properly ricochet the spread.
Easy Mode (can pretty much solo) = Plasma with all upgrades (Will stagger anything, never jam, have a good Rate of Fire, and a HUGE splash radius) but it is worthless on FF and gets boring after a bit. (Try the Vengence cannon if you HAVE to play Heavy)
You just offended every Salamander in existence.
Oh totally. But these tips are were intended for an "at a glance" source of advice for people new to the game; if people start with the Spear, which is way more teammate friendly, then they'll probably try the low AOE mod for the cannon at some point.
The big danger is that newer players pour their first upgrades into the plasma cannon and refuse to use anything else (had a guy actually leave a game recently because he had only unlocked the plasma cannon, with the increase AOE mod)
Yeah I get you - the number of times someone joins our server (clearly marked FF ON), kill themselves with the plasma cannon, then rq...Definitely shouldn't be the first weapon they unlock.
Salamander? Ah, you mean those green flamer boys? Those guys must have a special eye filter or idk...
;)
I have another post offering new player friendly server to help learn your craft....UK based....just FR if your interested but it does seem popular
