How to create a temporal free server

You can use a website that shows you all the cod4 servers, gametype, number of players, ping.... We have a good website, that we can use to play other games as well.
- Gametracker[www.gametracker.com]: It’s very easy to find in it, you can search servers by name, location, or even seeking players which are already playing. This is very recommendable.

Multiplayer game closes (Solutions).
This problem may happen when you don’t have the ‘Stereo Mix’ activated. So, in order to solve it, we can:

Enable Stereo Mix:
1. Right-click the volume/speaker icon in your system tray, and select Recording devices. (If you don’t have the icon in your system tray, open Control Panel → Hardware and Sound → Sound →Recording.)
2. Right-click and select View Disabled Devices. The device Stereo Mix appears.
3. Enable the Stereo Mix device.
Star the game as administrator:

Go to cod4 directory: (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty 4), make right click on iw3mp.exe > Properties > Compatibility > Run as administrator > Click apply > ok

Check that your drivers are updated.

Punkbuster error (Solution)

Although Punkbuster stopped its updates for Call of Duty 4 and many other games, it’s still being used for original servers and competitions, so if you want to try them you need to replace the last Punkbuster files in the Cod4 folder.

Download punkbuster files from Letsplayhttps://eu.letsplay.live/files/6854/
Extract and replace the files in (C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty 4\pb) or (C:\Program files\Activision\Call of duty 4\pb) if your game isn’t from steam.

Punkbuster problems are over from now! But of course you can still be kicked by PB if you experience lags, or server mods are not well optimized, or if you type wrong names (such as leaving your name empty, for example), or if the server is broken and needs to restart. But most of them can be fixed just closing and restarting the game, pc, connection, or just changing the server.

How to create a temporal free server

There are many websites offering the possibility to create a temporal server for playing. The most demanded:

I had steam backup the game, then when i went to play it, all my data was gone. How do I get my stuff back. I've spent 100 F***ing hours on multiplayer and now its all gone.

Follow the instructions, they do work. To find out your mother board on your computer (google how) you can do it from the command prompt, go to manufacturers site and download updated drivers for sound. Microsoft does not include (or mine did not) "Stereo Mix".

Update: to find out your motherboard information type in with the spaces and commas (do not use the qoutations " ") from the command prompt (in the windows system folder)

"WMIC baseboard get product,manufacturer,version,serialnumber"

Go to the manufacturers ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ website with the OS and build of your computer ready

(from the run dialogue box found under same window system folder) type in

msinfo32 this will give you the info you need for downloading drivers.

Mine was Windows 10 64 bit

when you get to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ manufacturers website go to support, audio, and download the right drivers. Install them, go to sound and enable Stereo Mix! (uncheck the "disabled" box)

Follow the PunkBuster instructions as well that are pinned up already, PB cannot be updated and this must be done manually but it does work and is needed for many servers still.

All done have fun.

Windows generic drivers DO NOT WORK......Microcrap did it again.

So, I'm having the multiplayer crash problem. I understand the problem is coming from the fact I do not have a component sound card or one on my motherboard. I'm using my graphic card to put the sounds through a TV. So, knowing I do not have on my computer any other kind of sound device, is there a way to play online anyway ?
