Chapter select workaround

I bought this game on GOG and therefore I am not allowed to make this a guide (which was my intention but Steam did not want me to do so), so I decided to open this thread and hope that it won't get burried too fast :)

As many who played The Beast Inside I also was annoyed that it does not have an official chapter select option. I started to fiddle with the savefiles and found out a very easy way to edit the savefiles so that you can start in whatever chapter you want. All you need is a hex editor (I used HexEdit MX - but every hexedit should work).

1) Locate your savefiles (%LocalAppdata%\TheBeastInside\Saved\SaveGames)
2) Open the file "SaveGameTypeName.sav" into the hexeditor and search for a string that starts with "DV_C0" - this is the actual chapter with
"DV_C01" being chapter 1, "DV_C02" being chapter 2 and so on.
3) Change the string to the chapter of your liking and save the file.
4) Start the game and click on "continue". The chapter you chose should be the one that's now loading. I am not perfectly sure how the checkpoints are saved so it might be best to reset checkpoints by chosing "restart chapter" from the menu.

Addition: After finishing the game most files will get deleted from your savefile directory and the method described above will only work after you have restarted the game and waited for the first checkpoint to be saved. Also, if you want to test all endings in the final chapter you should quit the game using ALT+F4 the moment "The End" is shown on the screen. This way you can simply reload the game and change your decision.

Tried doing this and instead it completely broke my game. The menu loads but neither continuing the game or starting a new game is not possible. Any idea how to fix it? :/

Yes I did and what I described above is still happening.
I deleted the save files and verified the game files and reinstalled the game completely and still same is happening :/

I am really sorry to hear that. I experienced with this workaround quite a lot and it never happened to me that the game won't even start anymore afterwards. However if even deleting the saves and reinstalling the game won't help in starting the game again there has to be something wrong in your registry. Would it be possible to make a screenshot of the menu?

I already fixed it. Just got a save off someone else and replaced the files in my folder with the sent files, the game launched again after that.

Ah, that is good. It still puzzles me though that the game die not launch after you deleted the saves but it does not matter now anymore, I guess.

I know this discussion is from 3 years ago, but a certain goober that happens to be me got the same problem. But it looks like that getting save files will fix this issue... so could anyone kindly help a fellow dingus out? :-)

What is the achievement progress? For the complete all achievements achievement, I only need the achievement which requires me to listen to the radios.

I played the GOG version which does not offer achievements so I am not even sure if my achievement progress would work for you.

Sorry to bring this up however I have completed the game and I'm currently looking in the editor but I do not see a string that starts with DV. I'm pretty sure the game did a checkpoint save and everything so I'm not sure the problem.

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm just an idiot haha I saw DV_SaveGameType and couldn't find the right thing, made the box full screen and saw what I needed. Thank yo uso much for making this 100% run muchmuch easier! :D Hopefully I can remember which note I'm missing from Adam
