Blasphemous takes inspiration from much of the brutal history of Spanish Catholicism and Inquisition. The rich and grimdark narrative isn't given solely in cutscenes, but in item lore descriptions as well. These item descriptions can also tie into the more obscure story aspects and possible outcomes of Blasphemous. And revisiting these notes is highly encouraged for quest tracking and gear upgrades.

Players can be expected to have to use their brains, as the game will not at any point hold your hand.
Platforming is a challenge with even a single mistake often leading to your death. And death brings its own stacking handicaps. Combat is no cakewalk and timing is everything with your actions and awareness; mistakes are often severely punished.

All in all, Blasphemous is rich story-driven metroidvania that will keep you on your toes from start to finish.

Combat is precise and punishing, requiring players to master timing and strategy to defeat formidable bosses. 9/10
