I can't believe how beautiful a game can be. The game had a very exciting and great story and the locations of the game were completely different and beautiful, the game had a good balance, that is, both scary and beautiful locations are well in The story of the game was immersive, the voice acting and music of the game matched the story perfectly

Another good thing about the game was the combat system and that it was not repeated in any way and we could fight with the enemies as we wanted.

Great game as i expected, easy to get immersed on and lose track of time, the way they move the story without cuts/breaks feels really smooth and enjoyable.
Story is based on France, there is an infestation, so basically what you see today, and it seems it all depends on one kid to save us, he has a sister which you will play as, it's well done, makes you care, feels real with all the attention to detail.

So yes story is good, game is very cinematic in style, gameplay is good, can't go wrong with this game, also awesome that they let you go back to each chapter to pick up things for achivements, wish all games did that.

Plague Tale is probably, to this day, the worst AA I have ever experienced in my life. "Experienced" because I felt submitted to this trash without having the slightest spark of amusement at all. This thing, is a blueprint for bad gamedesign from bottom to top.
(For those who finished it, I uninstalled once I reached chapter 16, bet you'll figure why).

The package was enticing though : an intriguing plot, endearing characters, beautiful visuals, an inventive arsenal involved in creative and situational puzzles, and finally a unique concept with the rats. As cringe as it may sound I did like the voice acting too.
So I wont lie, it had a huge potential, and actual heart and soul were somehow put into this project. The critics were also massively praising it. So why not ?!


Boi, where to begin. Let's try with an expression that summarizes my whole playthrough : immersion breaking.

The game is partly sold as a stealth adventure, but it is the most broken infiltration gameplay existing in video game industry imo. Number one reason being that the AI is stupid and badly coded. Enemies are basically blind and deaf, their position/orientation on the map never makes sense, as well as their ridiculous patrol rounds. They are simply unbelievable for the complete lack of logic in their making and behavior. They are video games "paws", not soldiers, nor guards, nor humans at that point.
And while I'm at it, the ally NPCs are garbage too, sometimes they're stopped in their own pathfinding, blocking the way forward, or not triggered when you give them orders. Good luck for not being softlock a single time because of them.
Of course they don't help you when you get in troubles, it would feel too real, so whenever you are caught you'll likely lose if you don't have ressources to defend yourself.

The exploration in Plague Tale is the litteral translation of blueballing. Remember these games where you had several paths to go through in an area, and when you pick the "story" path by accident, a script prevented you to backtrack and visit the other paths you missed ? Apparently it still exists. Oh and invisible walls too, because who needs levedesigners to block players with physical and contextual props in 2019 ?

For a game that "difficult" (shouldn't be on the paper, but christ), I found the checkpoint system to be total crap, either ruining your exploration because it saves after scripts as I stated above, either because they often set you way back prior your death. And god how fun is it to pick up the same loot/ressources on the same spots every time you reload a checkpoint. Delightful.

Then the "puzzles" (with or without enemies). Granted I am not a fan of 3D riddles like Portal etc, the game here has quite some ideas, I give it that. They are mostly pacing the journey and serve as tutorial, which is welcomed.
The problem is : they are so slow to solve it is rather a relief to finish them than a satisfaction. At best they are boringly long, at worst they were infuriating.

Now here is my personnal bit : I hated the controls. I played on keyboard/mouse, but the dynamic items wheel was a nightmare, especially when you are in a hurry to craft/equip stuff. I know there are shortcut keys in settings, but I don't have EIGHT keys to bind for that mess. It's also worth noting that accessing that wheel doesn't even slow time down ! Maybe that's just me, but I felt it was missing. I died many times because of that.
Besides the gameplay to take out enemies is theoretically interesting : it's a rock/paper/scissors with items you craft and shoot one after another on targets. But it's pretty confusing to manage both the crafting and swapping in order to finally combo it all while being chased or detected.
Mind you, you'll miss 50% of your shot anyway if the target moves. So much for the included aimbot (forced aim assist).

And for the sake of crying a bit more before leaving, here are a few mentions :
- ledge climb is dogsh1t because the prompts don't always show up as they should (unless you reload checkpoint or look at it from the "right angle")
- The story was a tad too predictable
- When you map a button on "E" to hold environnement asset, why on earth should you expect "right click" to be pressed to release it ???


In the end I hated this game more than I honestly expected to. But every step toward forgiveness, was three steps backward to mediocrity, clumsiness and disappointment. Plague Tale felt like it never had a single playtest session before going on shelves. All those cons eventually decided me to drop out despite my interest in the story. I think it's better to be a well rounded walking sim, than a cluttered abomination like this one.
