I think you got turned around and came back to the place you entered the area. There is probably another path that returns you to the world map.
Try finding a video walkthrough for that area to see how to get out.
Why would the game give you a ramp out of water that you can't walk up, then put an invisible barrier there? I mean, why even put it there if you can't walk up the ramp?
Remember that this game has slopes that you slide down. To me this looks like a slope that you slide down into the water.
What level (map) is this? Can you take a screenshot of the world map showing your location?
The base game maps are relatively seamless, DLC maps are a bit rough. If this is a DLC map, I think we have the answer (rushed development by a junior team).
You can try to limit the framerate to 60 or 30, that helps with game physics, it might help here as well.
