Bullet-hell shooters tend to have a very small hitbox for the player's ship, usually somewhere in the middle -- where the pilot's cabin or an AI core might reside -- or the "head", if it is a humanoid character instead of a ship. Fancy Fantasm's hitbox seems to be the entire ship. Perhaps you could shrink that hitbox (roughly to the size of an enemy shot in 1.1.1), and give the player extra points for enduring shots that graze by -- entering the ship's outline, but not striking the hitbox to cause a mi...

I just got this, and already I see a big problem with it. In a number of cases, especially in Lv. 1.2.X, I had enemies dropping in right on top of (or right next to) my ship, resulting in instant destruction. This is not Gaming Goodness. There needs to be a minimum distance away from the player's craft that an enemy can spawn -- and, on a related note, a minimum distance away from enemies that the player can spawn when starting a new life. Just wondering. This probably would make the game even harder to play but I thought it could look cool so worth running past the dev. If you haven't considered this already or it's not obvious what I mean: old crt radar displays have a slow refresh phosphor & a radial scan pattern, resulting in the enemy images fading until the next pass of the scan. It could perhaps be an unlockable option or stage. A monochrome look also, maybe....
