When I was trying to get the game working in widescreen resolutions using the OpenGL renderer instead of Direct3D I would get the same issue. Link 1 from this widescreen fix is what you're after (give it a try if you want):

Hey there, had the same issue. I found that it works in window-mode and curiously it'll turn fullscreen nonetheless but still work.

Simply open the downloaded hitman2.ini within the game's directory and change

Window 0

to

Window 1

It was working last night randomly but now every time I start up the game, everyone in the game turns black. My character and all the npc's. Does anyone know how to fix this?

heres a solution that worked for me. Simply Right Click-> Properties -> Compadibility -> and change it to windows xp service pack 3. hope it helps

Dont see a Window setting in the .ini file
