GRIS
What is the story behind it?
I finished the game first time and looks like I missed a lot. But in chapter selection I have no idea which one I actually missed sth and deserve going back.:LoveChoiceSweat: This is one main disadvantage I would say. Progress is not revealed clearly.

Second is the story behind it. I was totally confused and had no idea what it was trying to tell. Is the statue her mom? Why crying for what?:Wut_Leeches:

Art and music are good designed. Else idk maybe not so good.

Spoiler alert

Like you noticed if you played the game through, the whole thing is (like in the game RiME) about the 5 stages of grief people usually go through if they are going to die or watch some very close and beloved person dying.

Denial
Anger
Bargaining (with god)
Depression
Acceptance

Each chapter of Gris covers one stage in this order. While this order is the most typical one, every emotional journey in RL is unique and people can jump through them in different orders or even repeating some of them before ever reaching the final stage 'acceptance'.

Here is a funny video of Robotchicken about the very same topic:

If you collected all momentums in all chapters you can unlock a hidden cutscene and watch it if you look closely in the hub area before entering the last phase. In this cutscene you will see:

The girl with (I suppose) her mother on a meadow under the stars enjoying a (very last?) valuable moment together.

Whether it is the girl itself dying or her mother had died is not properly explained. This is up to your very own imagination and interpetation. But at least the girl seems to go through the stages of grief handling the severe situation about her own or her mother's demise.

If you ask me, I personally think that her mother died and she went (at least partially) through the stages herself or at least watched her mother suffer by them. The view is clearly from the girl and she lost her voice (temporarily) due to all what happened.

So when she reached the final stage 'acceptance' (going the stairs up to the stars, regaining her voice again), you can say it is some kind of happy end, as she is prepared for the unavoidable. So for me it was at least a good, yet sad, ending.

Hope that helps to sort things out.

'Gris' means grey in French too
But since devs are a Spanish studio, presumably they've named it from the Spanish word.
