[DMC3] Attacking while you're DT'd, or DT explosion for damage output?

Seems like activating Devil Trigger doesn't actually increase damage output like in DMC 1 and 2, at least not for Rebellion. The speed increase is very evident, so would that mean that using DT for attacks is only good for bosses that can get downed/stunned like Geryon and Leviathan Heart? Would it be better to just use the DT explosion then for someone like Vergil? Or is DT explosion the more preferred way for everything?

I'm not sure how other players do it but I use dt explosion to clear out multiple enemies as it's usually better to activate dt for one on one encounters like bosses, for example the best way to use dt explosion is in the chessboard room to defeat the king faster especially on dmd, aside from that I've seen people use dt explosion for vergil v3 but I'm unsure if it's better than just using dt
