underated. Nice artstyle but too bright

On paper I should love this game. But I really don't.
I finished the main story and almost all quests but I never really felt engaged by anything.

The combat gets stale very quickly. The weapons don't really feel different enough in practice even with the tribal weapons. The combos are more or less the same for all of them and the "Super Wung-Chu" abilities are weaker than just continuing to beat someone over the head with my regular weapon. In general the fights are too easy, but annoying. They take quite a while, most enemies scale with your level and at least in melee there's just a lot of abilities that knock you back or on the ground making the fights last even longer.



A lot of content is repeated. Cutscenes for the tribal conquests are 1:1 identical. Entire points of interests are practically the same and realistically there's not much difference between the things you fight. There's two types of puzzles that are just mindnumbingly easy but get reused so very often. Voicelines from the narrator get repeated waaay to often, though you can admittedly turn the frequency down in the settings.
Quests almost exclusively boil down to "go there, get/kill thing, come back, watch cutscene, repeat."

The narration was offputting. Not having any of the characters have a proper voice removes most of the connection you might have with them. Their designs certainly are memorable. But I would have prefered no voice acting at all and just reading what they say in direct speech instead of what we got.

The world is nicely designed, but it feels largely empty. almost none of the points of interest have anything interesting to do aside from walking into every corner, killing every enemy and opening all the containers.

I liked the crafting system, but by the second conquered tribe the upgrades I got were marginal and at least with ranged weapons there's a clear best choice.

The "morality" system is just weird with the choices. It's fine in general. And I understand why I get "dark aura" for killing an animal I caught or punching a pilgrim I saved. What I don't get is why my character would to these things? Why would I save someone just to then punch them in the face? There's no proper explanation for that outside of "being a ♥♥♥♥"

Then there's the general Jank. There is almost no way to distinguish if a button needs to be mashed repeatedly, held or just pressed once during QTEs, and especially during combat you don't really have the time to look at them well enough to check. There's no good way to sort through the massive amount of loot you get outside of looking at it's value and rarity. Virtually all items have a rarity even when unneeded like for the different mounts or automaton skins.
The display of materials only goes up to 99, though you can in fact carry more than that.

And finally the story: There's really nothing of note here. It's just surface level, without surprises, interesting characters or memorable moments.

I really should have loved this game. But nothing it did, it did well and some things it did outright bad. I really don't know why I played 40 hours of this.
