Genuinely the greatest 2D platformer (and platformer in general) I have ever played and I play LOTS of them. It heavily leans on Sonic's level design and fast-action gameplay philosophy while bringing new elements into the mix (e.g. a greater emphasis on combat) that allow for the Freedom Planet series to stand on its own. The combat in particular adds a skill ceiling that goes beyond any Sonic game I've played, so that's a bonus for those who like a good challenge. Also the story. It's probably the best I've seen in a 2D platformer. It's really good.
