Black Book came a fairly long way to this point: we ran a successful Kickstarter campaign, launched the prologue, and spent lots of time developing and polishing the game over the past year. You, in turn, have been supporting us all the way, inspiring us to keep working tirelessly. It’s been a long, sometimes tough, yet exciting and fruitful road — and this road is finally coming to a finish line now.


Actually, this may come as no surprise for those of you who have been actively following us here/on Twitter — remember our last 3 posts with random (at first glance) pictures? Well, those posts were the hints — try looking at them with the information you’ve got now, you’ll be quite surprised, promise :)

The game will cost $24.99 (€24.99, £19.99), and you will be able to get it with a 15% discount during the first week after the release.

Black Book will feature a full English voiceover, extensive story dialogues consisting of more than 150k words, and more than 20 hours of gameplay. Also, there’ll be a Supporter pack available for $10, including soundtrack and digital artbook. Exciting, right?

We hope that you’re looking forward to the release as much as we are — we can assure you that this long wait has been worth it. Really, you’ll see it for yourself very soon!

First off, I’d like to thank all of you for the warm reception for our first title, The Mooseman.
It was great seeing all of the interest and positive comments on the game we have worked so hard on.
Today, we’re announcing the next project from the Morteshka team: a story-driven RPG called Black Book.

Black Book is an RPG/Adventure game, where you take on the role of a young witch named Vasilisa. As you explore the small towns and villages of early XXth century Russia, you’ll face iconic creatures from Russian mythology. Some will aid you on your way, or even join you on your journey; others will threaten your body and soul - and you’ll get to battle them using a card-based combat system.

At a young age, Vasilisa stepped forth onto the path to witchhood - and started
learning under an experienced sorcerer, known across the land for aiding folk in need.
During her training, Vasya met a young man, and immediately fell in love. She decided to stop her pursuits and marry him - but her dreams are shattered when her betrothed dies under mysterious circumstances.
To revive her deceased love, Vasilisa needs to unlock the seven seals of the Black Book - a centuries-old artifact, passed down from Witches of the past.
Throughout the game, she will come face-to-face with the destructive influence of black magic. Will she surrender to dark forces and become a lost witch - or will she atone for selling her soul to the dark?

Hey everyone!

Vladimir here to tell you about why we make a release at 17th of February exactly, what will be the price and such stuff.

Our game is dedicated to the pagan finno-ugric mythology of ancient permian tribes, local to the town that our small team lives in (Perm, Russia). Mythology was materialized in bronze casted objects, with a unique style, called Perm Animal Style and these artefacts were the foremost inspiration for the game. All these myths that the object depict were lost during christianization process, so we had to reconstruct them, and we did that as best as we could.

The descendants of these so called Chud' tribes are now known as Komi-Permians. It is their ancestors who created all the bronze animal style objects. So the date of the release was chosen for a reason. 17th February is the day celebrating the Komi-Permian language, which now slowly disappears from regular use. We will celebrate it by remembering all the old stories and beliefs, that our game strives to bring forward from the sands of time.

Our game is a hobby-project, so the duration is short, about couple of hours, maybe 3 if you will collect all the secrets (which are kind of cryptic) and read all stories. The game will go live on 17th February for 6.99$.
