Should I feel guilty
I have a defense mod on since I want to get through the game without a frustrating experience but I keep on killing invaders who are clearly better than me. Should I feel bad or just laugh at their attempt in trying to frustrate other people

i think if you actually managed to win we wouldn't hear about it. when i get players like you it just means i get to bully you for longer.

You will be able to answer this question only when you yourself become an invader

You know you can just play offline right? If you need other player help with the boss just go online right before the fog gate and you usually find a summon sign there.

Cheating in pvp is scummy and getting invaded is an core part of what the game is.

I mean typically I don't even want to fight but since they block off my path being a nuisance I am force to kill them and typically they are at a disadvantage even with their stronger gear

Honestly I undestand not liking invasions especially with fromsofts's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ laggy netcode and balancing issues (hey, I have a darkbead twink with 99 humanities myself, if I'm going against a noobie, it's not fair or balanced in the slightest lmao), but cheating is just... Why? Just go offline/hollow.

Right... but cheating in the "main game" doesn't involve another human so there is no reason to feel "guilty". Yes cheating in online play is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing to do, since you've admitted to doing it you are literally guilty.

again, i don't think this happens, and when i run into someone with hacked defense it just lets me treat them like a punching bag. turns out zero skill plus cheating still equals zero skill.

You can 'go offline" from the main menu and in settings you can have the game launch in offline mode.
