Steam Deck Crashes
In case this helps anyone coming along later: the game crashed on the Steam Deck for me *only* when resetting the day while attached (in the in-game sense) to the clock in the chapel where you start the game. This is your state during the tutorial (which you can't change), and may also be your state at a later point in the game.

In my case, triggering a reset [of the day (in the in-game sense)] would cause the screen [to] go blank after the animation of the watch counting back to 12 (or maybe right before it-- can't remember exactly).

I did finish the game, though (and quite liked it), so it must be possible to play the game past the tutorial to the first save point-- or at least to a point where you won't be attached to the chapel clock anymore.

Huh weird, that might be a recent proton issue, because I played it on my steam deck a couple months back and never had a crash.

Hi there. We're sorry to read that and we're happy that you managed to finish the game. We will keep an eye if this issue occurs to more players.

Trying to play on the steam deck OLED, but just getting a black screen when starting the game :\ restarting the steam deck, uninstalling / reinstalling the game, and uninstalling proton files didn't fix it.

Same here. Crashes when starting a new game on Steam Deck.

Have you tried switching which proton version you're using?

i switched to Proton 8.0-4, and now the game works great.

For me, it's crashing to a white screen part-way through the tutorial. I found a comment on a forum post from someone who had the same problem, but their fix of reinstalling on internal storage rather than an SD card didn't fix anything. I'm completely unable to progress more than 5 minutes through the game because of this, so a solution would be appreciated.

Actually, the white screen crash in the tutorial is fixed by switching to Proton 8.0-4, but as soon as I try to return to the start of the day with the pocket watch, I get the same crash, but with a black screen instead.

The basic trouble-shoot I do it to make sure to verify files(under game properties), especially after switching protons. I'm pretty sure the game runs on proton all the way back to proton 6, so you can try a lower number as well like 7.

crashes here as well

I have similar issues with crashes during transitions screens on SD OLED. I have tried Proton Experimental and 8 and experienced crashes on the game first loading a new game, crash on the first room transition and crash when completing the tutorial but before I could save. I just uninstalled it from the Deck at that point. It's strange that some people seem to have no crashes and others getting constant crashes on similar hardware.

Yeah, I haven't tried since my last post, so I guess I'll go back and try more versions of Proton, but it takes so long to go through the opening scenes over and over again.

You can try verifying files as well, it might just be something downloading wrong on Deck. Players might also have some third party manager or system thing that's effecting it. Proton itself is also constantly updating and changing.

Sorry to hear people have been having issues with the game on Steam Deck, and thank you for reporting them - can I invite anyone who still has these issues to get in touch with me directly so we can help get to the root cause?

I'm particularly interested to hear about whether the Photon fixes + file verification is enough to fix the issue for you all, or if any of you still have problems persisting after that step.
