Haydee
Is haydee even beatable without a guide?
This was just a little question that sort of popped into my head after I managed to mostly wade through Zones green to red without the consultation of a guide, but then being completely lost, stuck, dumbfounded, frustrated and flabbergasted in the black zone as it introduced things and features basically unseen in the previous zones (ala the lift and energy cells bit).

I would have never progressed through it without a guide which had me throwing my arms in "how the hell was I supposed to have figured that out?" after every six syllable read.

So I do ask you, my reader. Do you think haydee can be beaten ina reasonable amount of time without consulting the guide EVEN ONCE, or doing the adventure game equivalent of pixel hunting?

F. Y. I if whoever reads this DID beat Haydee in blind mode, my mate you've my complete unbridled respect.

Thank you for your time.

I'm assuming yes it is beatable. In a reasonable amount of time tho? Nope.

Black zone was the one zone I had to resort to a guide and I even managed to get myself softlocked with the lift. Good thing I had another save in black zone that was useful.

Granted I wanted to speed through the last half of the game as quick as I could so that it being incomplete would no longer irritate me. But black zone broke me with the power cell mechanic.

In hindsight when looking at how it is solved it makes a lot of sense but jeez.

I beat the game in September of 2016 when it was released and there were neither guides no walkthroughs back then. I don't know if it's reasonable enough but I did it in 10-15 hours, mind that I didn't get all the achievements at that time.

I mean... I wrote the guide, so I would hope so...
if you like beating your head against a wall any game is beatable, even if it has bad design.
I have been playing it without a guide so far, I find it extremely rewarding to figure things out and map the areas by myself in notes. I'm at the dark area so far but one thing I have noticed is how EASY it is to softlock yourself in this game by something as simple as not getting a proper headshot or missing a single bullet, there are not enough resources to make mistakes and you don't know that you made a mistake until it's too late.
I agree.
Funny enough being in the dark area was the last straw that made me go "fine I'll use the damn guide sometimes" before promptly realizing that i had mistakenly soft locked myself out an hour back.

I will definitely say Haydee 2 is MUCH better when it comes to navigation and gameplay. Though the fact that parkour was removed kinda stung me.

The funny thing about the dark area is that I was lost for 3 hours, though once you realize what L and S stand for it becomes easier, but my baby brain could not figure out that "Lift" is a term used for elevators so it took me a while to make that connection. The softlocking though, it can very easily happen to the curious who drop down before checking each floor thoroughly.

I wouldn't have believed that was a lift, even if you put a gun barrel down my throat, love.
To be honest. This just ain't a good game, hell I'd say its barely A game.

I see your point, me, I like to support games with attractive female characters(non-DEI stuff) so I am biased in all honesty. The character plus ability to mod made the harder parts more bearable to me, but there were areas that were very not intuitive that made me take longer, the lift for example does not look like a lift, you needs cues from the "L" letter elsewhere and the fact that there is a staircase on the room nextdoor to even make that connection, probably something like lift cables or something to indicate that it's a lift would have helped as it just looks like a storage room otherwise. Also me realizing that you can ACTUALLY swim downwards by holding rightclick and looking down while swimming after the third time I went back and forth because I was stuck on the water level for the longest time. Or the gas area when I realized I could transfer a gun into the area but only AFTER I already struggled through it without one. The fact that I went trough the whole game without the SMG because it didn't occur to me to try the thing. There were many things like that, that if I knew they were even possible concepts within the game engine it would have made the game ALOT easier for me, but instead literally everything is a challenge in this game, even where and when you use keys can be a hazard.
Yeah. I agree.

I don't quite follow the "support the game because female protag" line of thought, but I do somewhat see your point.

May your journey through babe infested waters lead you into the best experiences - and less something like... This.

Haydee was an experiment (i think this was actually said by the dev) to see if people will buy a game because of a sexy, voluptuous protag. The game is just i guess a justification, a second thought that came after.

one of the strongest beliefs i have for games is that"sex sells" because it's been proven time and time again throughout history. so yes, a game with a thicc protagonist will sell.... but that's because players would be under the impression that the game plays at least smoothly.
However, now imagine how many of those players would have still gotten the game if they knew how obnoxious some of the platforming and enemies would be, how scarce the saves were and with a consumable item requirement, and also that they could at some point soft lock themselves out of being able to progress and lose hours of progression through that slog. that would easily, in my opinion, deter a vast majority of them from making the purchase because at that point they're just paying for a thicc protag model and nothing more... and they can find that online free.
My answer to the OP question would be: I really don't think so.

I'm now 10 hours in and I'm barely stumbling my way around the second (red) zone, (second out of five, I read...) spending most of my time being lost and retreading the same way over and over after I get gangbanged by a surprise slasher I couldn't possible see coming without the prodigious gift of foresight, without even the comfort of a level up system to at least prevent me from COMPLETELY wasting my time.

I'm this close to just giving up and cheating.

I totally hacked the game, just gave myself infinite ammo and medkits. The game realistically requires you to die many many many MANY times not just so you know how to beat enemies as efficiently as possible, but also so that you get it mathematically perfect where and when you have to shoot, and if you miss a headshot you just soft-locked yourself unless you know where to look for the next crumbs of ammo, not to mention know if you needed to shoot or use mines. Its very rewarding when you get it right but in it's raw form it's hell. Other than that exploration was easy for me since I map all games like these anyways but yeah.
