Accessing Beta Branches - How To
We're currently running two separate Beta branches, that allow you to access preview versions of upcoming patches, before anyone else. Keep in mind that we cannot guarantee that these builds will be stable and we strongly suggest you keep using the regular version of the game to play, especially online.

Here's how to access them:
  • From the Steam Library, locate Empires Apart.
  • Right-click on Empires Apart and choose "Properties"
  • Click on the "BETAS" tab.
  • From the dropdown menu at the top, select the branch you want to access.
  • Click Close.
  • Depending on various factors, this might trigger an update of the game. After the update is complete you will be able to play the game with the beta patch applied.
  • To make sure the operation was successful, check the name of the game in the Library. It should be something like "Empires Apart [Beta]".
  • If you can't start the game or the update doesn't trigger, either try "Verify Integrity of Game Files" or restart Steam.

To go back to the regular version of the game simply:
  • From the Steam Library, locate Empires Apart.
  • Right-click on Empires Apart and choose "Properties"
  • Click on the "BETAS" tab.
  • From the dropdown menu at the top, select "NONE - opt out of all beta programs".
  • Click Close.

Please keep in mind that trying to run the game from a beta branch might prompt an antivirus notification of suspicious activity, and it will try to block the process. Just add it as an exception and run it anyway, don't worry. We often can't sign every Beta build we push to steam, so that's what's setting off some antiviruses.

Excellent, Thx!

I have been testing a wee bit with the current Beta Branch and found the following:

- All maps EXCEPT "Mirage" and "Winterwald" seem to be lag-free on ALL sizes.
- Both "Winterwald" and "Mirage" are lag-free through BIG. It is only when HUGE is selected that the lag begins, and it is immediate upon entering the game map.

I also messed with the "GameUserSettings" CFG file. I am not certain if this file is "live," but the game does seem to be performing much better after some tweaks:

I hope that this info is somewhat useful. I will keep on dinking with the settings - doing so helps with my OCD :)

Feels even worse with the queue times now, that you decided to split the community in half. Please rethink the decisions of running two independent clients in a half-dead game. Sincerely, a customer that really wishes to play the MP aspect (oh wait, there is only MP aspect) of Empires Apart.

Note there is a typo in the French tech tree and it still says that their Veteran and Elite Light Cavalry can "Charge". Also the Arabs tech tree still says that their Siege Workshop produces Naft Throwers which should be moved to the Archery Range. Thanks for fixing many of the other bugs and working on AI and performance!

We understand your concern. This was sort of an exception to circumvent some Easter issues. We'll make sure to use the Beta branch to actually test things in the future and not as an alternative branch to the main one. Fear not, the change will be inlcuded in the main branch tomorrow.

in diplomacy assasination there is a glitch where Genghis Khan only has 5 hp, this is only on assasination game modes however, not in ones where you have to produce him
