Announcement: Mac Crashes / Rainbow Graphics Bug
Target Audience

There is an issue currently affecting a very specific set of players where the game crashes to desktop after an average from 20 minutes to an hour of play. It may also include a “rainbow” like box, or bright white box in place of item cards, or character cards. Both of which are displayed in the following image: http://i.imgur.com/aOtkekl.jpg

These specific crashes occur for users who are playing on a Mac and are using an onboard Intel Card.

To be clear: these crashes do not affect all Mac users. Just those who are using onboard Intel graphics cards. If you have a discrete card installed in your Mac: this issue does not apply. If you are experiencing gameplay bugs issues that do not involve a hard CTD after play time: then continue to supply bug reports as usual. This is specifically to address this particular issue.

Current Status

First and foremost: it’s in the interest of transparency that we are writing this document, and being upfront and honest about it. We are very sorry that this problem is occurring for you and want you to know that you’re being heard, and that we have tried very hard to research, diagnose, and treat the issue.

After the reports started coming in, and we pieced together the similarities: we began to perform research on the web and quickly found that this issue is not specifically isolated to our game. It seems to be a long standing issue with Unity games, and Mac Users using onboard Intel Cards. None of the related issues that we found seem to have been resolved.

We know the game Duskers has done a significant amount of research into the issue as evidenced HERE

In addition: Hearthstone has the same problems reported HERE[www.hearthpwn.com]

Unfortunately: neither of these issues seems to be closed off with positive solutions.

Next Steps

From what we’ve read: None of the parties involved have taken specific ownership of the issue, and while Hearthstone has reported a decrease in the number of reported issues, they have not dropped off completely. There is always the chance that upgrading our version of Unity may resolve the issue, but this is not a certainty as Unity has remained hush-hush on whether or not the issues even exists. In addition: upgrading Unity is not currently on our roadmap in any concrete manner, so we can’t guarantee when we can attempt it.

Possible Workarounds

Since the crash appears to happen over time, it leads us to believe that it’s related to memory. That being said: you could in theory delay the possible crash by lowering your quality settings, and resolution. This would mean that the assets that are accruing in memory take up less space, and thus increase the time before the crash.

This is only a theory, and we’d love to hear your experience with it, or any other options you’ve tried.

Final Thoughts

All that being said: it is with a heavy heart we must admit that we cannot guarantee this issue will ever be fixed. If this is unacceptable to you: please take advantage of the Steam Refund system. If you want to tough it out through our ongoing development, then we’re happy to have you on board.

Sincerely, The IronOak Team

Hello, I am having this problem and understand the game is still in development, and think from what I can play its a great game. I would like to stick with it and see if the problem is resolved but will I be able to recieve a refund if it is not resolved by full release?

Wow that is so disappointing. I like this game but it's almost unplayable because of this. Thank you for your transparency. I'm not going to ask for a refund because I have enjoyed what I've been able to play, and also because you're being so up front about all of it.

Good luck, I hope it gets figured out.

I definitely appreciate all the info!

I play in windowed mode on the lowest resolution. I use the recommended optional graphics because I've noticed that my GPU actually runs harder when I turn them off. Right now, the game runs for about 25 min before crashing.

Does the dev team have any insight into which options might generate the least amount of memory pressure?

Hi, I have just seen the video and the introduction and hence bought the game. I play on my iMac from 2017 and on High Sierra, with 64GB RAM. I could launch the game but I could only read the intro of each class before it crashes. Really sad to see this, so I changed the option of video but the crashes would not stop... What can I do please...?
