The controls of this game are so sheeet, still the graphics are okish according to a game released in 2012.
Not gonna lie the story is very very rich. Feels like we are playing a Military Movie not a game.

hands up... played this almost after a decade after it's release :)

Waste of time to play. Feels like ass to shoot, navigate, anything. Enemy spawns are frustrating and it's the most generic of generic cover shooters. There's supposed to be this deep schizoposting story about how war is bad, and the real monsters are humans, but I been knew. Game's not revolutionary. Just look up a youtube video on the plot if you're curious.

Can't really remember anything after playing it, beside sand and bad shooting, and people being excited about the story. Could be if I could remember any of it, but anyways playing games washed me of any emotions and it's a ♥♥♥ fps so it's just better to go and watch a recap on youtube and not waste that hours going through all that boring shooting for few cinematic or heartfelt story moments

People claim that this game is "hyped", but its been out for a decade now - it should be considered a case of "play it if you think its worth it"
I think its worth it.

Amongst the non-complicated game mechanics, pretty simple AI and the one softlock i experienced, it powers through to be a good experience without crashes. Completed it in one session. The artwork presented, the locations and the restart-awareness (including non-repeatable events) were all major highlights.

Despite watching videos talking about this game, the realtime experience is the way to go.

SOTL is an important game. You don't often see a large-publisher game switch genres half-way through, into a satire of its popular contemporaries.

While maybe not especially deep, it's a game demanding reflection from the player. Whatever the meaning you come away with is your own, whatever affecting power it may or may not have had over you. And it has, consequently, brought into focus discourses around games as art, as entertainment, as promotions of war as glorious, and how we may internalize that messaging.
