VR works fantastic on the Meta Quest 3 !!!
I really wanted to share this because I've had this game for a while and always assumed VR performances in this game were terrible and there wasn't much to do about it.

I originally played it with the reverb G2 that is normally a good headset for simulators but I had bad performances with it, weird aliasing and it was just very janky when turning my head around.

Now I just got a Quest 3 and I have been really enjoying wireless VR without any cable. So I decided to give Car City Driving another shot. It took a lot of trial and error to configure it right, but oh god does it work well now, in a way I never though was possible. Smooth head movments, no more weird anti aliasing and a decent resolution.

Here are the specs of my PC that is decent but nothing exceptional today. It was a high end PC from 2/3 years ago :
- Nvidia 3080-Ti
- Radeon 5800X
- 64Gb of DDR4

Here is how I got it to work so well :

1 - First you don't want to use Virtual Desktop. I normally run all my PCVR games on VD for the Quest but for this game it doesn't work well. Virtual Desktop will run it with SteamVR runtime and I was getting worse performance and weird camera movments that were not exactly following my head. Instead you need to use Air Link or a Link cable. Personally I use Airlink since my computer is on the 2nd floor and my simracing setup in the basement. But you can use a Link cable if you are next to your computer.

2 - In the Oculus Software you can configure the resolution and the refresh rate. I set everything to the max (90Hz and 1.5x render resolution). If you need to make some adjustment base on your PC performances, I strongly suggest dropping the refresh rate to 72Hz and only play with the resolution as a last resort if that's not enough. I tried on 72Hz and honestly it was still very smooth.

3 - After starting Airlink, set the bitrate to the maximum value (200 for me).

4 - Still in Aitlink, launch the game from the library tab. If your next to your PC, you can manage the game setting and start missions or free driving from there. Otherwise you will need switch back and forth between VR view and your PC monitor view in your headset (seriously why couldn't they display the game menu inside VR ...). Anyway in the game settings disable Vertical Synchronization, and then set all the graphic options to the High and all the sliders to the max.

5 - You can now start a game sessions and enjoy how well it runs. If your PC is less powerful than mine and you still get performance issues, start by reducing the refresh rate in Airlink and reduce some visual settings inside the game. Try to keep the resolution scale to 1.5. It really makes the game look much better and make the weird aliasing disappear (probably some resizing artifacts)

I hope this helps a few people enjoy this game in VR the way it should be For me this has completely transformed my experience. I used to have to force myself to play it through short sessions on the Reverb G2 but now I'm having a blast doing taxi missions for hours on end =D

Great!
Hi. Thanks for your guide.
I've tried different methods before and I couldn't launch this game on Quest3 I even returned it. But after I came across your guide, I decided to buy this game again:) And this time I created a shortcut to the desktop, connected via quest Airlink and without launching steam VR, I launched the game through the shortcut on the desktop. In this case, the game launches through the quest app and works fine.

Hello,

Please note that the game officially supports only Oculus Rift and HTC Vive VR headsets. Vive Pro and Rift S should work.

Regarding the Index, Quest, Cosmos or any WMR-compatible devices - for now we do not have these headsets by our hands, and do not have plans to supported them in near future. Sorry.

Also please take into account these advices if you use VR with City Car Driving:

- Update your VR headset software & drivers.
- Update your video card driver to the latest version.
- Make sure you connect your VR headset before(!) starting the game.
- Do not launch/use SteamVR. If SteamVR is already running – close it before launching the game. Then just run the game in a usual way and select the VR output in the in-game settings menu.
- VR activates only after the driving session start (it does not work in the main menu).
- If you feel you still need to make lower motion sickness effects you can try disabling some of the camera inertion effects as described here - https://gtm.you1.cn/app/493490/discussions/0/3277925755433585773/
