Check Your Steam Account Settings
Heads up for everyone. Check your Steam account settings.

I just purchased something from Steam and my saved payment info was gone, and I had to re-enter it. BUT, more importantly, update information for games was changed. Games set to only update on launch were still set for that, but also had the update info being overwritten by Steam, under the Downloads tab in Steam settings - which had updates changed to "Let Steam decide when to update" for games installed in Steam Library - and even though I had games set as exceptions, they still showed a pending download date - and I certainly DO NOT trust Steam to respect those exceptions. I had to change the global setting for games in my library to "Only update at game launch."

I strongly suggest that everyone check their Steam settings and fix them as needed.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Upon checking the Manage Downloads page (accessed via the bottom of the Steam page), I observed that Steam had once again set a date to download updates for games, despite them being set to only update on launch and despite my changing the global parameters to only update on launch. So this needs to be checked on your end - Do NOT rely upon Steam to correctly apply changes.

I just fix it a few minutes ago.

Nah, still is the same on my end.
Might be a regional issue.

Still needs to be checked - I've now had a quite a number of people report that their settings had been changed by Steam - across all regions (as this is a Steam client issue, not a regional one).

Also, everyone please see the Important Note I added to the main post.

Thanks for the posting just checked mine and it was changed so I chanced it back to only update when I launch the game. Thanks for catching this Steve.

It's good to see that people are checking this, as there have been a large number of people posting in other places that Steam had reset their settings.

So if you haven't checked, please do so.

I have checked mine too and changed the settings!
Nabinkemper 25 stycznia o 16:45
I just changed mine as well [shakes fist at Steam].

If you have pending downloads for games on your Steam "Manage Downloads" page, even if they were in the "Unscheduled" section, and you do not want them updated, you WILL need to check after launching Steam, as Steam may have reset them to a scheduled time for download and moved them to the "Up Next" section IN SPITE OF YOU SETTING THEM NOT TO, except upon launch.

A handy fail-safe way to ensure your game doesn't update, regardless of what Steam does, is to set SkyrimSE.exe to read only.

Right-click>properties>General tab>Attributes at bottom>check Read Only box

That will not always work - what people want to do is set the appmanifest_489830.acf file to read only. See this article by ff7legend:

I just noticed it Saturday, after I had purchased a game. I would guess that it was in an update earlier during the week.

Glad it helped! It's not so bad if one is starting a new game from scratch and it updates, but when one has that "perfect build," the last thing one wants to have to do is rebuild and deal with the hassle of updating everything - and possibly losing that perfect build that one spent so much time and work on to achieve.
