Phase 2 should be announced shortly. Also, there was an update in September.
Most of our ship editor tech is in place now, so James (our lead software engineer) has switched focus to getting the factions and culture tech up and running. This will be another core part of the game, so naturally there are going to be a lot of interactions added later with other systems; but for now we're aiming to get the basics of interacting with a faction in place so that players can start trying that out in Phase 2.
When Phase 2 hits, it will add an entirely new dimension to the game -- it won't just be adding a new system, it will be the next major step towards integrating our existing systems and creating a larger purpose to use any of them. For example, currently the ship editor and training area are effectively a standalone mini-game, but once Phase 2 hits there will actually be a reason to design different ships for different purposes, or to tinker with your basic design as you require new capabilities.
Phase 2 will also be adding an introduction to the Terran universe, fleshing out the story of what's actually going on. Of course, we won't start revealing the major "plot points" that are happening in the galaxy at present... we need to keep something back for later... but the historical info and backstory we're adding with Phase 2 should present our game universe in a new light.
Unfortunately, it's impossible to say for sure how long these updates take to do properly; so we tend to leave the announcements until we've actually hit the button to submit the new branch. Rest assured though, we'll keep our players up to date when we have something to share.
