Why do I complain so much?
Why do I complain so much? I didn’t used to. When I first started playing this game, it was enjoyable and everything worked properly. But then the owner began adding new features, like the airplane, which has never worked properly and still doesn’t. The latest update has caused more issues, like the campfires not functioning correctly.

Let’s be honest: in a survival game, you wouldn't be able to craft a four-wheeler without having the materials to create essential survival tools, like a spear. When you're playing a survival game, you should start off by building a home out of logs from trees, not plywood. The game suggests that you can build with lumber, but realistically, you don't have a sawmill or a workshop to gather supplies for such things. It’s not like we're living in a city here.

If you enjoy the game as it currently is and are okay with playing a broken experience, that’s fine. But I believe the game creator falls short. Here’s why:

1. He doesn’t keep up with the game or ensure things work as they should.

2. He has repeatedly promised to add features but hasn’t delivered on any of those promises. Many players can confirm this; he often makes claims just to keep players engaged, but they turn out to be false.

Creating a game using an engine like Unreal may seem easy, but maintaining it is a different story, and this owner simply cannot keep up. The game has been in early access for years without a full release—why? Because the owner seems more interested in making money than in developing the game or listening to players.

That’s why I voice my complaints. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me, but I will continue to express my frustrations until the owner starts addressing the issues and maintaining the game as a proper creator should. Other game creators manage to make necessary repairs and improvements, but this one does not seem to care. If you're okay spending money on a broken game, then go ahead and enjoy it. But I can’t help but voice my concerns.

In a survival situation, in the real world, none of use could create an ATV, solar panels, wind turbines, refrigerators, nor many of the other items from scrap we found in the woods. Nor could we carry the equivalent of a freight train of mats in our pockets. And I don't see where we make plywood, we make boards, find nails, and use cordage to fill the gaps between the boards (that is actually a real thing). In RL there is no such thing as a LASER refinery.

I've not had any problems with the campfire, and have looted quite a few crashed planes...though not found a flight helmet yet. No idea what you consider "working properly" but maybe on out of three crashes, I can find it, and loot it.

Are there things I've suggested for years now and we don't have? Yes. Same with pretty much every game I've ever played.

EA or released bears little to no bearing on how much money he makes and you seem to think you know what his interests are. Would I like him to do everything I've ever suggested? Yes. It is reasonable to expect he will listen to all of our ideas? No. It's not our game, it's his.

A spear would be nice...maybe. Needed? No. Nor do we need another pistol but if adding a pistol interests the dev then so be it.

I've complained about things like elevators and hang gliders...the first of which is useful in huge towers, the second I have never found a use case for other than once or twice as a laugh. The ATV honestly I don't find all that useful. You have to get off of it to look at the map. And the map...fog of war is nice, but it isn't done well. If I climb to the top of a hill I should get more of the 'fog' cleared. If I stand on the shore of a lake I should get the entire lake cleared. But then when I started (Nov 2016) there was no map, no elevator, no hang glider, and getting food was quite a bit more difficult. Would I have preferred other things than some of these? Yes. Did it break the game for me? No, I have never crashed, and see very few bugs.

And he does listen to players, sometimes more than I'd like. He changed the fiber because of all the whiners that claimed they couldn't find any. Funny, after the first few hours of play I never had trouble finding more fiber than I could ever use.

Look, things are exactly the way I would like and clearly they aren't for you either. But I have not ever played a game that was exactly what I would like. However Subsistence has stayed on my desktop for EIGHT years while other games have come and gone. I don't play as much as I use to but I do go back to it regularly, maybe even more so than games like Fallout 4 and Skyrim that I've modded the hell out of.

One thing though I REALLY didn't like was encrypting/encoding the save files. I saw no reason for it.
